Marijuana vending machines: helpful or just hype?

By Jack Daniel in DispensariesMedicalNews

Innovation is inevitable in any industry, and the field of medical marijuana is no different. With laws already in the books in 18 states and more on the way, investors who might not know their Blue Chips from their Blue Dream are flocking to these regions to stake their claim in what they see as the next big commodity.

White-collar Wall Street-types can certainly see the budding upside to sinking money into dispensaries, growing operations, and other cannabis related retail outlets. But those potential gains are often outweighed by the prospects of inventory control, employee management, product naiveté. And of course, the grey area that exists in all current state-level medical marijuana laws that fly in the face of Federal statute. Cue MedBox. . . . Read Complete Report

Top ten hemp legends: Which myths are true — and which went up in smoke?

By Melanie Asmar Mon., Mar. 18 2013 at 9:50 AM

Did Henry Ford really make a car out of hemp? Was the Declaration of Independence written on hemp paper? Did Abraham Lincoln use hemp oil in his lamps?

The hemp plant, a variety of Cannabis sativa that’s the subject of this week’s cover story “Green Acres,” is steeped in lore. Some hemp legends are true. Others are half-true, and some are completely false. Here, we present ten hemp myths culled from the Internet — and attempt to separate the fact from the fiction.

Washington State: Marijuana Prohibition Repeal Day is Our New Favorite Holiday

From Mary Jane Washington

Posted by  on December 6, 2012

On December 6, 2012 hundreds of people fired up their marijuana devices under the Space Needle as a handful of disinterested Seattle cops stood by. Smoking pot is now legal here  – but the new law is not aboutsmoking marijuana. It’s about having the freedom to do so, without worrying about getting thrown in jail. As of today very person who walks over the border into Washington or is lucky enough to already be here has that right.

And how the Feds will react is anybody’s guess. Remember that last ridiculous prohibition we suffered through – the one on alcohol? During that insane era “medical” liquor was being sold by every drugstore in the country to perfectly healthy people – much the same way in which medical pot is being marketed now. A scam designed to drain the public treasury so that gangsters could get rich. And then the States starting repealing the law, and the Federal government finally gave in. . . . Read Complete Report

Now that states have started legalizing recreational marijuana, will the president continue the government’s war on weed?

When voters in Colorado and Washington state legalized recreational marijuana in November, they thought they were declaring a cease-fire in the War on Drugs. Thanks to ballot initiatives that passed by wide margins on Election Day, adults 21 or older in both states can now legally possess up to an ounce of marijuana. The new laws also compel Colorado and Washington to license private businesses to cultivate and sell pot, and to levy taxes on the proceeds. Together, the two states expect to reap some $600 million annually in marijuana revenues for schools, roads and other projects. The only losers, in fact, will be the Mexican drug lords, who currently supply as much as two-thirds of America’s pot.

Drug reformers can scarcely believe their landslide victories at the polls. “People expected this day would come, but most didn’t expect it to come this soon,” says Norm Stamper, a former Seattle police chief who campaigned for legalization. “This is the beginning of the end of prohibition.” . . . Colorado and Washington Legalized Marijuana Tuesday, What Happens Now? (+) Latin American leaders call for review of US legal pot vote

Colorado and Washington Legalized Marijuana Tuesday, What Happens Now?

by Erik Altieri, NORML Communications Director

November 8, 2012

Tuesday night, the states of Colorado and Washington sent a loud and clear message to the federal government that they no longer wish to enforce the futile prohibition on cannabis. The symbolic impact of these victories are immediate, but what are the practical effects on the ground now that these two initiatives have been approved?

In Washington State, regulations for the marijuana retail outlets are going to start being drafted by the Washington State Liquor Control Board. This process is expected to last about a year. The immediate impact of passing I-502 is on the state laws regarding possession. Starting on December 6th, Section 20 of the initiative will take effect. This section effectively states that any person over the age of 21 is legally allowed to possess up to 1oz of dried marijuana, 16oz of marijuana solids (edibles), and 72oz of cannabis infused liquids (think oils and lotions). It is also no longer a crime to possess marijuana paraphernalia. . . . Read Complete Report

2 states legalize pot, but don’t ‘break out the Cheetos’ yet (+) R.I.P: Marijuana Prohibition (w/Video)

Finally!

Prohibition of alcohol was finally overturned, not by the FEDS making it legal, but by legalizing alcohol state by state, thereby ignoring the 18th Amendment.

First the State of New York legalized it while it was still illegal  under Federal law.  Then other states started to legalize until it reached the point that the FEDs didn’t have enough officers to enforce the law.  Then, and only then, did the FEDS join in by passing The 21st Amendment which repealed the 18th Amendment, the prohibition of alcohol. Amendment 21 repeals Amendment 18. This is the same plan being used for the legalization of marijuana.  Looks like we’re on the right track.  Smoke um if you got um!!!. . . EDITOR

2 states legalize pot, but don’t ‘break out the Cheetos’ yet
By Alan Duke, CNN
updated 12:17 PM EST, Wed November 7, 2012

Los Angeles (CNN) — Pro-pot groups cheered passage of referendums legalizing recreational marijuana in Colorado and Washington state as the “light at the end of the tunnel” in their 50-year campaign to make the drug legal nationwide.

“Yesterday’s elections have forever changed the playing field regarding cannabis prohibition laws in America (and probably in large parts of the world too),” Allen St. Pierre, executive director of NORML — the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws — wrote in a celebratory blog Wednesday.

But Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper warned it’s too soon to “break out the Cheetos” since his state must still navigate federal laws before citizens can legally buy and sell cannabis. . . . Read Complete Report

The beginning of the end…has begun.

Yesterday’s elections have forever changed the playing field regarding cannabis prohibition laws in America (and probably in large parts of the world too)

The citizens of Colorado, Washington and Massachusetts delivered game changing victories last night for the nearly fifty year-old cannabis law reform Movement. Massachusetts becomes the eighteenth state to pass legal protections for qualified medical patients who’ve cannabis recommended to them by a physician. Colorado and Washington become the first places in the world, ever, where citizens have cast votes to reject cannabis prohibition, and replace the failed public policy with alternatives like tax-n-regulate models (similar to the control and taxation models widely accepted for alcohol and tobacco product use by adults). . . . Washington DC is considered to be the symbol of American power and freedom. However as the saying goes – the District has a long history of taxation without representation. DC residents have no members representing them in either the House or the Senate and yet they pay their taxes like everyone else and in many cases much higher taxes. RT’s Liz Wahl looks at how this works and how the people feel about it
