Most Americans, regardless of ideology, oppose “crony capitalism” or “cronyism.” Cronyism is where politicians write laws aimed at helping their favored business beneficiaries. Despite public opposition to cronyism, politicians still seek to use the legislative process to help special interests.

For example, Congress may soon vote on legislation outlawing Internet gambling. It is an open secret, at least inside the Beltway, that this legislation is being considered as a favor to billionaire casino owner, Sheldon Adelson. Mr. Adelson, who is perhaps best known for using his enormous wealth to advance a pro-war foreign policy, is now using his political influence to turn his online competitors into criminals. . . National ‘assault weapon’ ban coming Thursday

Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s office confirmed that she will be introducing in the Senate Thursday a new version of the so-called assault weapon ban. A spokesman said the full text will be released at a press conference on Thursday.
and on the ban that expired in 2004, by including handguns and shotguns, in addition to rifles. She would decrease from two to one the number of cosmetic features on a gun to have it be considered an “assault weapon.” This means that if a gun has just one item like a pistol grip or bayonet lug, then it is illegal. Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed into law the same ban in New York last week.

Furthermore, instead of grandfathering in current firearms, she would create a national gun registry for the government to track lawful gun owners. Magazines would again be limited to 10 rounds. . . Read Complete Report

President Barack Obama will introduce a package of proposals to cut gun violence tomorrow, including a ban on sales of assault weapons that already faces fierce opposition in Congress even as a majority of the public supports it.

The administration has invited lawmakers to the White House for an announcement on gun violence at 11:45 a.m. tomorrow, according to a Senate aide, who asked for anonymity because the schedule hasn’t been released.

Illinois Concealed Carry Ban Ruled Unconstitutional By Federal Appellate Court

CHICAGO – The long-standing ban on carrying concealed weapons in Illinois is over.

On Tuesday, a federal appeals court in Chicago tossed the state’s ban on carrying concealed weapons, reports the Sun-Times. The court is giving the Illinois Legislature 180 days to craft a law legalizing concealed carry.

The 7th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in two downstate Illinois cases that challenged the state’s concealed weapons ban, according to the Sun-Times. . . Read Complete Report
