The First Man to Walk on the Moon Astronaut Armstrong Dies (w/video)

from Filer’s Files #35 212

Only 12 humans have walked on the moon and Neil Armstrong was the first. Neil Armstrong was a soft-spoken engineer who became a global hero when as a steely-nerved pilot he made “one giant leap for mankind” with a small step onto the moon. The modest man who credited others for the feat, died Saturday, from complications resulting from a cardiovascular bypass operation. He was 82. Armstrong

During the Apollo 11 moon landing, there was a two minute period of radio silence. Astronauts Armstrong and Aldrin saw something else watching them! According to Timothy Good, author of Above Top Secret. . . .Read Complete Report & much, much more.

The moon is about to become crowded.

In the next few years a slew of countries, including China, India, and Japan, are looking to put unmanned probes on the lunar surface. But more unprecedented are the 26 teams currently racing to win the Google Lunar X Prize – a contest that will award $20 million to the first private company to land a robot on the lunar surface, travel a third of a mile, and send back a high-definition image before 2015.

With all this activity, NASA is somewhat nervous about its own lunar history. The agency recently released a set of guidelines that aim to preserve important heritage locations such as the Apollo landing and Ranger impact sites. The report, available since 2011 to members of the private spaceflight community, was publicly posted at NASA’s website and officially accepted by the X Prize foundation on May 24. . . . Search for Advanced Extraterrestrial Life –“Probe Mars for Artifacts” Say Leading Astrophysicists

from The Daily Galaxy

May 19, 2012

The Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) has a low probability of success, but it would have a high impact if successful. Physicists Paul Davies and Robert Wagner of Arizona State University argued last year that it makes sense to widen the search to scour the Moon for possible alien artifacts. At Penn State, researchers propose the same type of search for Mars. To date, SETI has been dominated by the paradigm of seeking deliberately beamed radio messages. The ASU team argued that Alien civilizations may have sent probes to our region of the galaxy, and that any mission to the solar system would probably have occurred a very long time ago. The lunar environment could preserve artifacts for millions of years due to the absence of erosion and plate tectonics. . . . Read Complete Report

Nazis in space pack in the crowds at Berlin film fest

Feb 12 03:05 PM US/Eastern

A sci-fi black comedy about Nazis from the moon invading Planet Earth is one of the hottest tickets at the Berlin film festival, which is better known for its gritty political fare.

“Iron Sky”, a B-movie spoof drawing the crowds at the 11-day event in the German capital, imagines that Hitler’s surviving henchmen set up a lunar colony after the fall of the regime in 1945, biding their time to strike back.

The opportunity comes in 2018 when a US astronaut exploring the dark side of the moon comes face to face with a Nazi soldier clad in a black uniform and a breathing mask.

Behind him, a secret military base shaped like a swastika looms into view . . . Read Complete story
