Lt. Tony Ryan, board member for L.E.A.P. (Law Enforcement Against Prohibition) and retired Denver police officer after 36 years of service, says;

“The War on drugs is a disaster for law enforcement. A total failure at reducing use or crime, that costs billions of dollars while making the problem worse and enriching drug dealers.”

One or more representatives of L.E.A.P. will present the case against pot prohibition (and other drugs) this weekend in Merrillville, Indiana.

Officer cleared after going to wrong address, shooting innocent grandpa in his garage

“FORT WORTH, TX — An elderly man was slain in his own garage because police “inadvertently began searching” the wrong address while investigating a burglary call.  Spotting a man who appeared “standoffish” in his own garage, police opened fire, killing a 72-year-old grandfather.  After months of investigation, the officer has been cleared and is back on the streets.”

This type of incident is why the Indiana law makes sense and will save innocent lives. It forces officers, on fear of death, to identify themselves both audibly and visibly to avoid being shot justifiably. And it just might save the lives of every day citizens, although that doesn’t seem to be a concern of nearly enough cops.

In Laurel, Md. the police department has fully implemented the use of what’s been coined the “lipstick camera,” a miniature camera that’s tacked onto the glasses of police officers. The department says it can provide valuable evidence in court for both sides in case of a dispute, and therefore benefits both officers and citizens. But there are still concerns over the privacy issues at hand, such as what becomes of the countless hours of video footage and whether officers have the power to edit the video. RT’s Ameera David reports.
