Two recreational cannabis bills before Vermont legislature
Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 2:45 pm
Vermonters have two chances to legalize certain amounts of marijuana possession and cultivation, with two bills headed to state legislators this session.
The first bill, Senate Bill 48, was introduced last month. If passed, it would decriminalize the possession of up to an ounce by adults 21 and up. People caught with under two ounces would face a civil fine of no more than $100. People found with more than an ounce would face up to six months in jail and up to $500 in fines. Paraphernalia would also be decriminalized. People possessing under an ounce can not be denied any rights or privileges at the state level, including student financial aid, unemployment or occupational licenses. . . . Canadian “marijuana millionaire” donating up to $620,000 to decrim efforts

Thursday, February 14, 2013 at 9:24 am
A Canadian marijuana activist and winner of a $25 million national lottery last November is putting his money where his mouth is. The Province reported last week that Bob Erb, 60, has vowed to meet any donations to Sensible British Columbia campaign for marijuana decriminalization and legalization. Erb has already donated $120,000, and says he’ll donate up to $500,000 more to match donations.Currently Sensible B.C. is trying to get a voter referendum on the 2014 ballot that would order all police in British Columbia to no longer subject people searches, seizures and arrests for possession of cannabis. It would also require the BC government to petition the prime minister to allow for regulated and taxed cannabis production and sales. . . . Read Complete Report

Reality Check: The War on Weed – Vanguard Documentary (Video) (+) MUST READ: Police in Modern America

In “The War on Weed,” Christof Putzel travels coast to coast to investigate the bizarre range of marijuana laws and enforcement in America. In California, legalized medical marijuana has led to something of a free for all and the Feds are cracking down. In Colorado, medical marijuana is protected by the state constitution and millionaire entrepreneurs have set up shop. In New York City, African-American men are arrested by the tens of thousands for low-level pot possession.

Washington State: Marijuana Prohibition Repeal Day is Our New Favorite Holiday

From Mary Jane Washington

Posted by  on December 6, 2012

On December 6, 2012 hundreds of people fired up their marijuana devices under the Space Needle as a handful of disinterested Seattle cops stood by. Smoking pot is now legal here  – but the new law is not aboutsmoking marijuana. It’s about having the freedom to do so, without worrying about getting thrown in jail. As of today very person who walks over the border into Washington or is lucky enough to already be here has that right.

And how the Feds will react is anybody’s guess. Remember that last ridiculous prohibition we suffered through – the one on alcohol? During that insane era “medical” liquor was being sold by every drugstore in the country to perfectly healthy people – much the same way in which medical pot is being marketed now. A scam designed to drain the public treasury so that gangsters could get rich. And then the States starting repealing the law, and the Federal government finally gave in. . . . Read Complete Report

N.Y. Times Ad: Prohibition Is Finally Coming To An End

In Thursday’s New York Times, a drug policy reform organization is running a full-page ad that thanks voters in Colorado and Washington and emphasizes the growing support for drug policy reform among people from across the political spectrum who are renowned for their leadership in law, health, business, media and politics. Last month, Colorado and Washington became the first two states in the country – and the first political jurisdictions anywhere in the world – to approve legally regulating marijuana like alcohol, with both states’ initiatives winning by decisive margins. . . . 2 states legalize pot, but don’t ‘break out the Cheetos’ yet (+) R.I.P: Marijuana Prohibition (w/Video)

Finally!

Prohibition of alcohol was finally overturned, not by the FEDS making it legal, but by legalizing alcohol state by state, thereby ignoring the 18th Amendment.

First the State of New York legalized it while it was still illegal  under Federal law.  Then other states started to legalize until it reached the point that the FEDs didn’t have enough officers to enforce the law.  Then, and only then, did the FEDS join in by passing The 21st Amendment which repealed the 18th Amendment, the prohibition of alcohol. Amendment 21 repeals Amendment 18. This is the same plan being used for the legalization of marijuana.  Looks like we’re on the right track.  Smoke um if you got um!!!. . . EDITOR

2 states legalize pot, but don’t ‘break out the Cheetos’ yet
By Alan Duke, CNN

Los Angeles (CNN) — Pro-pot groups cheered passage of referendums legalizing recreational marijuana in Colorado and Washington state as the “light at the end of the tunnel” in their 50-year campaign to make the drug legal nationwide.

“Yesterday’s elections have forever changed the playing field regarding cannabis prohibition laws in America (and probably in large parts of the world too),” Allen St. Pierre, executive director of NORML — the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws — wrote in a celebratory blog Wednesday.

But Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper warned it’s too soon to “break out the Cheetos” since his state must still navigate federal laws before citizens can legally buy and sell cannabis. . . . Read Complete Report

R.I.P: Marijuana Prohibition

by Allen St. Pierre, NORML Executive Director

November 7, 2012

The beginning of the end…has begun.

Yesterday’s elections have forever changed the playing field regarding cannabis prohibition laws in America (and probably in large parts of the world too)

The citizens of Colorado, Washington and Massachusetts delivered game changing victories last night for the nearly fifty year-old cannabis law reform Movement. Massachusetts becomes the eighteenth state to pass legal protections for qualified medical patients who’ve cannabis recommended to them by a physician. Colorado and Washington become the first places in the world, ever, where citizens have cast votes to reject cannabis prohibition, and replace the failed public policy with alternatives like tax-n-regulate models (similar to the control and taxation models widely accepted for alcohol and tobacco product use by adults). . . .
