On Wednesday, British newspaper the Guardian reported that documents provided by American whistleblower Edward Snowden show the US National Security Agency is using a secret tool, called XKeyscore, to collect data on nearly all online activities of a typical Internet user with no prior authorization.
The documents describe the secret program as the “widest reaching” system which can gather intelligence from computer networks. . . . Read Complete Report

On Tuesday the advocacy group Partnership for Civil Justice Fund released new documents that show the Department of Homeland Security is conducting surveillance on peaceful protest groups, like Occupy Wall Street. DHS is claiming it has every right to keep track on peaceful demonstrators, but critics say it’s an abuse of their power.
According to the documents it turns out, DHS has been spying on peaceful, law abiding citizens since 2006, and they say it’s legal. For more Michael Brooks a producer for The Majority Report joins us.

The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act , or FISA which is a piece of legislations that allows the US government to monitor civilian phonecalls and interraction without a warrant has been up for debate in the Congress. Some congressmen took the turn discussing dangers of the act while another demanded to make it a little more transparent, which was turned down though. The bill hasn’t been well-received by privacy advocates either. RT’s Meghan Lopez has more.

Verizon has filed a patent for a cable box equipped with a microphone and motion sensors to record what its customers are doing. That means the television will be watching the viewers watching it. The idea was that Verizon could target advertisements to what their customer are doing while watching TV. Liz Walh explains whether this new policy sits well with privacy advocates. . . posted with video.
