In the lair of Bigfoot

Second only to the deserts of the American Southwest for strange happenings is the Pacific Northwestern area. What many people don't realize is that most of the area consists of hundreds of miles of virgin forest and majestic mountains. Other than a few large cities, mostly along the coast, the rest is sparsely populated. There are a few highways that wander between the mountains and through the forest but much of this beautiful land is seldom, if ever, seen by man.

This is the land of Bigfoot or Sasquatch as the local Native Americans
call them. An interesting story by Research/Writer B. Ann Slate appeared in the January 1975 issue of Saga magazine. Here are some excerpts from her interesting report, Gods from Inner Space:
In April 1974, psychic Joyce Partise of Southern California held a sealed envelope in her hands. Unknown to her, that envelope contained a photograph of a Sasquatch footprint … [Ms Partise gave her feeling] … These things are coming from outer space … it's an outer space war! The first area will be Portland, Oregon. … There's a mountain with a hole in it. Someone should investigate this mountain because they're down in there already. You know those hairy things that run around, the ape-man? He's not an ape. They're underground in contact with outer space and their intentions toward mankind is total destruction!
As reported by Ms. Slate, the California psychic continues:
This gorilla man … their eyes are extremely light sensitive from being underground. These tunnels I'm seeing are part of their habitation. They've dug them. I think it may even go into California.
As Ms Slate explains;
Bordered by the Pacific Ocean on the west, the rugged Cascade Mountains extend the entire state from north to south. Armies of men could be hidden within the dense forests which cover nearly 50 percent of the total land area. Certainly subterranean activity could go unnoticed within lave tubes, deep canyons, miles of unexplored caves, and underground streams.

As we can see from the report above, the Bigfoot-Subterranean Worlds connection is an area that needs much closer study. But would you believe --- a Sandman?

Warren Smith in his 1970 book Strange Abominable Snowmen wrote about the Abominable Sandman of Borrego who has been puzzling treasure hunters and gold prospectors since 1964. The underground connection becomes clear as Mr. Smith explains the lure of the isolated Borrego Valley desert of California:
This is an arid, virtually uninhabited area near the Mexican border. There are scores of crevices, caves and openings in the Superstition Mountains. Many treasure hunters believe the Cocopah Indians once knew of a subterranean network of caves and tunnels beneath the mountains.
Mr. Smith tells of one treasure hunter who found signs of the elusive “Sandman.”
Major Victor Stoyanow was seeking the entrance to just such a labyrinth in this area in January 1964, when he noticed several huge, human-like footprints in the sand.
The prints ran in pairs, generally parallel and they averaged 14 centimeters in length and 9 wide at the instep,? Major Stoyanow declared after his investigation.

As my continuing research seems to point out there is defiantly a connection between the underground cavern and tunnels systems and the elusive creature know as Bigfoot.

The People Who Live Under Mt. Shasta

Just south of the Oregon - California border a majestic
peak holds its secrets. Mt. Shasta, at 14,380 feet dominates the bright California sky, and as legend has it is home of the descendents of the Lost Continent of Lumura who live in an underground city. Locals along the trails and roads of this remote, serene area sometimes see strange robed “elders.” One such encounter was described by Cyril H. Jones in the May 1990 of Fate Magazine.

As he and his wife were driving along the Everett Memorial highway out of the City of Mount Shasta towards the mysterious mountains they passed two tall, thin men with heavy backpacks on their backs walking up the steep road. For some unexplained reason Mr. Jones stopped his camper and let them catch up. Mr. Jones described the meeting:
Two young men of well over six feet tall were peering in the window with gaunt faces and vibrant eyes of electric blue! My wife and I must have had a strange expression on our faces because we were fascinated by the unusual color of their eyes. Politely, one of the men stepped forward and asked, with an unidentifiable accent, if we had stopped for them. The two men asked to be dropped at the timberline, then climbed in the back of his camper.
As they disappeared into the forest the Jones noticed the pair were wearing simple leather sandals, unusual footwear for the area.
The next morning after climbing to the 11,500-foot level the Jones' pitched their tent. By the time their camp was squared away a cloud had started to shroud the mountain blocking the sun. Within minutes it had gone from balmy and nice to zero visibility with a twenty-five mile wind. As the day continued the weather went from bad to worst. The skies filled with thunder, lightning and driving snow. Mr. Jones described what happened next:
Then at about three in the morning, at the very height of the tempest, we heard the impossible; foot-steps crunching through the snow outside our tent with wide eyes my wife confirmed it sounded like someone or something was slowly walking around the tent, stopping from time-to-time, and the continuing on.
The next morning the storm was over. The Jones made a careful examination of the area around their campsite, but they found nothing.
Had the Jones nocturnal visitor been one of the elusive animals known as Big Foot? Or had the two strange men of the day before braved the storm to watch over the Jones campsite repaying the favor of the ride up the mountain by becoming their guardian angels during the raging storm? Had the Jones met two “elders?” from Lemuria? We'll never know. But one thing we do know. The Jones' are positive that during the night their camp above the tree line on the mysterious Mt. Shasta had been visited by someone or something.
Subterranean Beasts

For our next clue to the ever-growing mystery of people and animals that possible live underground we travel to the other side of the world. This time we'll stop in France. Robert Charroux tells us in Forgotten Worlds (1971) that geologists know that a great underground river passes under Paris. It flows about three thousand feet below the surface and is fed by underground water from nine parallel spurs of the Jura Mountains, hence its name; the Jura River. After passing below the Morven region of France, it passes below the Morven region of Scotland, near Inverness and Loch Ness, famous for its monster.
It is interesting to note that the animal hero of the Jura region in France is also a fabulous serpent: Voivre. Another coincidence, etymologically, the name Jura means “wild beast.” (Pages 301-302).
Could it be that the famous “Nessie” is a migratory animal, using the underground river to travel between warm interior waters and the cooler waters of Loch Ness to mate or give birth to their young?
My research continues . . .
