I have been an unbeliever since I first heard of this foolishness. I could be wrong.

The ancient Mayan calendar predicts that planet Earth will be entering a new cycle in the year 2012. The day the world is predicted to end is December 21, 2012, but are these grim predictions just a hoax to make people rich? RT’s Meghan Lopez has more.
Has the tomb of King Kan Balam II, the son of Pakal the Great finally been found in Palenque? Although archaeologists have been searching for this tomb for decades now, there has never been anything found of his remains. But now that may have changed. A group of amateur explorers has announced on several TV stations in Mexico that they have found the missing tomb near the Temple of the Foliated Cross (pictured). What is intriguing is that this building was constructed during the reign of Kan Balam II and was one of the places that archaeologists thought the King could be buried at.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. [Brown University] — A team of archaeologists led by Brown University’s Stephen Houston has uncovered a pyramid, part of the Maya archaeological site at El Zotz, Guatemala. The ornately decorated structure is topped by a temple covered in a series of masks depicting different phases of the sun, as well as deeply modeled and vibrantly painted stucco throughout.
The team began uncovering the temple, called the Temple of the Night Sun, in 2009. Dating to about 350 to 400 A.D., the temple sits just behind the previously discovered royal tomb, atop the Diablo Pyramid. The structure was likely built after the tomb to venerate the leader buried there.
Houston says that through this find, much of it pristinely preserved, researchers are gaining a significant amount of new information about the Maya civilization. . . . Read Complete Report

GW Anthropology Professor Jeffrey Blomster’s Research Featured in PNAS Journal

WASHINGTON-George Washington University Professor Jeffrey P. Blomster’s latest research explores the importance of the ballgame to ancient Mesoamerican societies. Dr. Blomster’s findings show how the discovery of a ballplayer figurine in the Mixteca Alta region of Oaxaca demonstrates the early participation of the region in the iconography and ideology of the game, a point that had not been previously documented by other researchers. Dr. Blomster’s paper, Early evidence of the ballgame in Oaxaca, Mexico, is featured in the latest issue of Proceedings in the National Academies of Science (PNAS).
Dr. Blomster, GW associate professor of anthropology, has spent 20 years researching the origin of complex societies in Mesoamerica. The participation of early Mixtec societies in ballgame imagery is a new aspect of his research. For the journal publication, Dr. Blomster worked with undergraduate students Izack Nacheman and Joseph DiVirgilio to create artistic renditions of the figurine artifacts found in Mexico.

It is now time to start a research archive for some of the rumored upcoming evens that, if true, could be the end of our civilization as we know it. As I have said many times before, I do not believe that the Mayan’s were predicting an “end of the world”. I will get into that with another report.
Speculative Angle
I do believe that its possible the Mayan’s saw something coming in the far-distant future of A.D 2012. What they saw gave them the date as to what would be the ending date to carve into the famous stone calendar. The logical answer as to why the calendar has an end-use date is not because man would no longer be around to read it, but because the Mayans would no longer need it. We always look to the logical answer first. That is the only logical answer unless it truly is the End Times. That … or the stone mason just ran out of space.
It being the end times is hardly probable for several reasons, the discussion of which is not the subject of this posting. Besides if it is “End Times” then this research, website, you, and I will just be very small part of the Nil factor.in our quest. So for now, lets move on while we have time.
The first question we must ask: “Why would they not need the calendar any longer? Once we understand the use of the calender that question can be answered with one sentence: “In order to follow a calendar you must have a way of referencing and separating the dates. We use the circling of the sun to measure day and night. But what if you lived underground? A calendar as a way to keep time is impossible to use in the inner realms. . .
