Idle No More has galvanized marches, flashmobs and railway blockades in the fight for indigenous rights

Last month a protest movement exploded across Canada, but little has been made of it by the media below the border. The reason for this, perhaps, is that the issues underpinning the movement are  — quite literally — indigenous to Canada. Under the banner Idle No More, thousands of Canada’s aboriginal peoples (First Nations, Inuit and Métis) and their allies have staged mass demonstrations in cities and towns all around the country in protest of the abusive treatment of indigenous people in Canada by the Canadian government. Mass marches have peacefully taken over the streets in Ottawa, while Round Dance flashmobs (nodding to both traditional indigenous dances and social media-fueled protest practices of late) have popped in around Canada and even in a handful of U.S. cities in solidarity. . . . Atheists Protest, Cry, and Whine for Being Depicted With Horns

from Godfather Politics

Atheists come out in droves as we approach the end of the year and the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. They go trolling for sympathetic judges that will shut down any government acknowledgement of Jesus’ birth. The latest atheist “victory” comes from the city of Santa Monica.

The Washington Post reports –

“There’s no room for the baby Jesus, the manger or the wise men this Christmas in a Santa Monica park following a judge’s ruling Monday against churches that tried to keep a 60-year Nativity tradition alive after atheists stole the show with anti-God messages. . . . Read Complete Report

Protesting Is Now Terrorism

An activist was designated as a terror suspect put on the terrorism watchlist, which was used to prevent him from protesting at the week’s DNC in Charlotte.

Activists James Tyson was shocked when he was giving an extremely high $10,000 bail after being pulled over on his way to protest at  the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte.

Court documents show prosecutors were able to get such an unreasonably high bail set because they argued he was a dangerous person listed on the Department of Homeland Security’s terrorism watch list.

Tyson’s only two previous  run-ins with law enforcement  were for fishing out of season and driving while impaired.

Even more ostensible is prosecutors argued that Tyson be held in jail without bail until after the DNC was over. . . . Read Complete report

Current Department of Defense anti-terrorism training course material states that the exercise of First Amendment rights in the U.S. constitutes terrorist activity.

The ACLU has written to the DoD regarding its Antiterrorism and Force Protection Annual Refresher Training Course, which advises personnel that political protest amounts to “low-level terrorism”.

MMJ Supporters Protest Obama Marijuana policy in Oakland (w/video)

medicalOakland — Hundreds of supporters of President Obama turned out to see him at Oakland’s Fox Theater on Monday afternoon. They lined up for blocks along Telegraph Avenue for the opportunity to see President Obama as he traveled from one fundraising event to another. Before the First Motorcade passed them though, a march of several hundred people instructed them variously to “Smoke weed every day,” “Stop the madness, spark a spliff,” and demand that their candidate keep his promise.

The activists gathered first at Oakland City Hall to protest U.S. Attorney Melinda Haag’s crusade against area dispensaries. This April, in apparent contravention of the publicly-stated will of President Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder, federal agents raided Oaksterdam University. Recently, Ms. Haag has also threatened to seize Harborside Health Center, where 100,000 patients have procured medicine over the last six years.

Representatives of the two dispensaries joined Judge Jim Gray, the Vice Presidential candidate on the Libertarian ticket, a handful of Occupy Oakland regulars, and a community of cannabis patents in front of around one hundred supporters.

Specifically, the group’s plea was for the President and the Attorney General to intervene in Ms. Haag’s anti-dispensary fight. Behind this, they have Obama’s previous statements and what they have been led to believe was official Justice Department policy, as articulated by Holder. Candidate Obama said in 2007, “I would not have the Justice Department prosecuting and raiding medical marijuana users; it is not a good use of our resources. AG Holder has promised to keep the Justice Department’s nose out of medical marijuana establishments unless they “are acting out of conformity with state law.” . . . Read Complete Report

Occupy Prepares Nationwide May Day Mayhem

from Before its News

‘Direct action’ to shut down economy, block bridges, tunnels

Occupy’s plans for nationwide May Day chaos are going ahead full-speed ahead, with the movement boasting of “direct action” schemes that include protest marches, shutting down the financial sector, and blocking bridges and tunnels.

The group’s official websites announce plans to “occupy” Manhattan-bound bridges and tunnels as well as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco Tuesday.

Besides street protests, sympathizers are asked to engage in a U.S. general strike to “shut it down,” referring to the country’s economy.

The MayDayNYC.org website, which serves as a national planning hub, published the call to arms:

“This May Day, Occupy Wall Street, in coalition with numerous other organizations and occupations, calls for a Day Without The 99%: No Work, No School, No Shopping, No Housework, No Compliance. Let’s take the streets, reclaim our communities, and support each other. NOT the 1%.

“If you can’t strike call in sick. If you can’t call in sick hold a slow down. We know how to shut it down because we’re the ones that prop it up.”

The Manhattan-based Occupy calls for “direct action and civil disobedience” in Midtown throughout the day, including “creative disruptions, bank blockades, outreach to commuters and tourists, and more!” . . . Read Complete Report
