A Senate panel is taking a look at the possibility of turning Washington, DC into the 51st state. Over 630,000 people currently reside in the federal district, but have no representation in Congress. Residents have long fought for the right to have a say in the government that taxes them, but politics is a perpetual roadblock in their quest. DC Shadow Senator Paul Strauss joins RT’s Ameera David to discuss the fight and its implications.

CIA spies on Senate. Here’s how to take back your digital privacy [FREE]

Spoleto, Italy

Back in March serious allegations came out of the Senate that the CIA was monitoring and even hacking Senate computers. They were denied vehemently at the time by CIA director John Brennan, who went so far as to say “that’s just beyond the scope of reason.”

Unsurprisingly, of course, the CIA has now come out saying that, yes, they did in fact spy on Senate aides’ computers. Oh, and that they’re sorry. Very sorry.

This is stuff that would have been a major scandal not too long ago, causing a public outcry for the heads of those responsible.

Today, it seems par for the course. . . Read Complete Article

TRENTON, NJ — During a Senate hearing on upcoming authoritarian gun control bills, James Kaleda took his turn at the podium and made a statement. He described how the laws would be ineffective at keeping people safe, as they only restrict law-abiding citizens, not criminals. He is ejected by Committee Chair Senator Norcross, at the hands of NJ State Troopers.

This took place at the NJ Senate gun control hearings in Trenton on April 30, 2013.

Top ten hemp legends: Which myths are true — and which went up in smoke?

By Melanie Asmar Mon., Mar. 18 2013 at 9:50 AM

Did Henry Ford really make a car out of hemp? Was the Declaration of Independence written on hemp paper? Did Abraham Lincoln use hemp oil in his lamps?

The hemp plant, a variety of Cannabis sativa that’s the subject of this week’s cover story “Green Acres,” is steeped in lore. Some hemp legends are true. Others are half-true, and some are completely false. Here, we present ten hemp myths culled from the Internet — and attempt to separate the fact from the fiction.

Two recreational cannabis bills before Vermont legislature
Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 2:45 pm
Vermonters have two chances to legalize certain amounts of marijuana possession and cultivation, with two bills headed to state legislators this session.
The first bill, Senate Bill 48, was introduced last month. If passed, it would decriminalize the possession of up to an ounce by adults 21 and up. People caught with under two ounces would face a civil fine of no more than $100. People found with more than an ounce would face up to six months in jail and up to $500 in fines. Paraphernalia would also be decriminalized. People possessing under an ounce can not be denied any rights or privileges at the state level, including student financial aid, unemployment or occupational licenses. . . . Canadian “marijuana millionaire” donating up to $620,000 to decrim efforts

Thursday, February 14, 2013 at 9:24 am
A Canadian marijuana activist and winner of a $25 million national lottery last November is putting his money where his mouth is. The Province reported last week that Bob Erb, 60, has vowed to meet any donations to Sensible British Columbia campaign for marijuana decriminalization and legalization. Erb has already donated $120,000, and says he’ll donate up to $500,000 more to match donations.Currently Sensible B.C. is trying to get a voter referendum on the 2014 ballot that would order all police in British Columbia to no longer subject people searches, seizures and arrests for possession of cannabis. It would also require the BC government to petition the prime minister to allow for regulated and taxed cannabis production and sales. . . . Read Complete Report

Senate To Gut Second Amendment?

Boy the elitist internationals do not know what they are heading into when it comes to trying to infringe on our 2nd amendment right.  The United Nations has no right to become involved with our Constitutional rights. Instead of trying to destroy our freedoms by using our own weak politicians, maybe it would be more productive if some of them would go home, give their own people just half of what American’s have,  and solve their own problems. . . . As New York City plays host to a conference that will shape the UN Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) into final form, most 2nd Amendment supporters are concerned that stealth language or overly broad applications woven into the document will serve to separate Americans from their right to keep and bear arms. After all, why else would preliminary versions of the Treaty be so difficult to obtain and U.N. pre-conference position statements remain consistently absent from the internet?

Barack Hussein Obama leads the most anti-gun rights Administration in the nation’s history. Hillary Clinton, Eric Holder, Janet Napolitano, and recently appointed ATF Acting Director B. Todd Jones have spoken often and passionately about the importance of implementing more restrictive gun control legislation. . . . Read Complete Report

Millions of Americans oppose SOPA and PIPA because these bills would censor the Internet and slow economic growth in the U.S.

from Google

Two bills before Congress, known as the Protect IP Act (PIPA) in the Senate and the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) in the House, would censor the Web and impose harmful regulations on American business. Millions of Internet users and entrepreneurs already oppose SOPA and PIPA.

The Senate will begin voting on January 24th. Please let them know how you feel. Sign this petition urging Congress to vote NO on PIPA and SOPA before it is too late. . . . link
