Clear majority favors legal marijuana, new Gallup poll shows

Americans who believe marijuana should remain illegal are now in the minority, according to new poll numbers released Tuesday.

For the first time ever in a Gallup poll, a clear majority of the country – 58 percent – say that pot should be legalized. That figure represents an increase of 10 percentage points since last year, according to Gallup. The poll surveyed 1,028 Americans by phone Oct. 3-6.

Those in favor of legalization skew young and liberal, though the biggest increase of support came among people identified as independents. Sixty-two percent of independents favored legalization in 2013, up 12 percentage points from last year, according to the poll. Sixty-five percent of Democrats favored legalization, vs. just 35 percent of Republicans. . . . Read Complete Report

Three photos of Marijuana in L.A. Jail in 1951

square-1951-marijuanacop-thumb-205x205Retronaut.com is a seriously cool site for fans of quirky, odd historical photos as evidenced by these three strangely hysterical shots of cops and a scraggly little pot plant.

We don’t have much information on these photos, other than they are from the Van Nuys police department from 1951 and somehow wound up as part of the University of Southern California. Apparently someone sent a pot plant to the jail without any explanation and the cops had no idea what to do with it, or themselves . . . Complete Article with photos.

Lila Leed in “She Shoulda Said No”

Published on Jul 20, 2013

mitchum_Linda Leeds SOURCE National Enquirer“She Shoulda Said ‘No’!” (also known as Wild Weed; Marijuana, the Devil’s Weed; The Story of Lila Leeds and Her Exposé of the Marijuana Racket; and The Devil’s Weed) is a 1949 exploitation film that follows in the spirit of morality tales such as the 1936 films Reefer Madness and Marihuana. Directed by Sherman Scott and starring Lila Leeds, it was originally produced to capitalize on the arrest of Leeds and Robert Mitchum on a charge of marijuana conspiracy. The film was issued under many titles; it struggled to find a distributor until film presenter Kroger Babb picked up the rights, reissuing it as The Story of Lila Leeds and Her Exposé of the Marijuana Racket. Its relative success came only after the promotional posters were redone and a story fabricated that the film was being presented in conjunction with the United States Treasury.
