The Himalayan Towers are a series of stone towers located mostly in Tibet. Carbon dating shows they were built approximately 500 to 1,100 years ago. Since they are generally located in prosperous villages, it is believed that their primary function was as a demonstration of a family’s prestige within the community. For strength, many of the towers use a star pattern of walls as opposed to a strictly rectangular method. Heights can exceed 60m. For more information see the work of Frederique Darragon.

Sunken City of Baiae – Beverly Hills of Ancient Rome

Sunken City of Baiae – The Beverly Hills of the Ancient Roman Elite.

In the Bay of Naples, just a few miles from Pompeii and Vesuvius, lies one of the world’s most stunning archeological sites. This is the lost Roman city of Baiae. From the first century to the third century AD, it was the most exclusive spot in the Roman Empire.

It was a place of fantastic wealth, but the glitter and opulence hid a dark side. Rome’s elite came here to scheme and conspire, and it was the setting for one of the most sinister murder plots of the Roman age. Baiae played a pivotal role in the Roman Empire. Then, disaster struck. Half the city sank beneath the waves and lay forgotten for more than a thousand years.

Now, a team of archeologists is investigating every inch of the ruins. And new discoveries are helping to shed light on the lives of Rome’s elite.

Baiae was a mineral springs and coastal resort on the northwest shore of the Gulf of Naples in ancient Italy. It was fashionable for centuries during antiquity, particularly towards the end of the Roman Republic, when it was reckoned as superior to Pompeii, Herculaneum, and Capri for the super-rich. It was notorious for its hedonistic offerings and the attendant rumors of corruption and scandal. It later formed part of Port Julius, the base of the western fleet of the Imperial Roman Navy. It was deserted and its ruins largely submerged by local volcanic activity by the time of the Renaissance. What is left of Baiae is now a frazione of the comune of Bacoli in the Campania region of Italy.

Treasure Chest: Guy Trades For Tank On eBay, Finds $2.5 Million In Gold Hidden Inside

The Type 59 (Chinese: 59式; pinyin: Wǔ shí jiǔ shì; industrial designation: WZ-120) main battle tank is a Chinese-produced version of the Soviet T-54A tank, the earliest model of the ubiquitous T-54/55 series. The first vehicles were produced in 1958 and it was accepted into service in 1959, with serial production beginning in 1963. Over 10,000 of the tanks were produced by the time production ended in 1980 with approximately 5,500 serving with the Chinese armed forces. The tank formed the backbone of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army until the early 2000s (decade) with an estimated 5,000 of the later Type 59-I and Type 59-II variants in service in 2002.

The Type 59 was modified several times during its service. It was also the basis of several later Chinese tank designs including the Type 69 and Type 79 tanks.

An English military vehicle collector thought he got quite the deal when he traded a tank and self-propelled gun for a Type-69 tank, a Chinese variant of the T54 developed by the Russians that was sold to Iraq and used in the 1991 Persian Gulf War.

When he examined the tank, he found out just how good of a deal it was; the Iraqi tank crew had apparently looted roughly £2 million ($2,474,600) worth of gold bullion, and had hidden it in a fuel tank. . . . Read Complete Repoirt

Joseph Smith claimed he translated the Book of Mormon from anciently engraved gold plates, which he took from a stone box in the side of a hill near his home in Manchester, New York. Claiming that he was forbidden by God to show them to anyone, Smith kept the plates carefully wrapped in a cloth or concealed in a wooden box. Believers accept this as God’s way of requiring faith, whereas skeptics suspect Smith constructed a set of plates that couldn’t pass visual inspection. This is the story of Joseph Smith’s bringing the plates home in September 1827.

YAMASHITA’S GOLD

Those of us interested in the subject have heard many stories and rumors of the fabulous treasures hidden in the jungles and mountains in the Philippines. In fact an original THEI correspondent and personal friend of mine, a treasure hunter well know in my neck of the woods moved to the Philippines over 20 years ago to search for treasure with his Filipina wife’s family. His nickname is, of course, Lucky. Although it’s been 15 years since I had any correspondence with him I’d bet he’s still pursuing his quest. . . . your Editor Dennis Crenshaw
