Archaeologists are meeting to discuss the Piltdown Man controversy, 100 years after the faked fossils were presented to the world.
In 1912 remains of a human ancestor were claimed to have been discovered at a gravel pit in Piltdown, East Sussex.

Was the Piltdown specimen ever subjected to radiocarbon dating? Was the tooth enamel ever tested for trace element analysis to determine where the teeth originated? Were the 1953 examinations ever reviewed first hand by other researchers?
No, no, and no. But once “declared” a fake, Piltdown will always remain a fake.
