Since the first court decision to articulate Native American law back in 1823, our nation’s courts have repeatedly invoked historical “facts” as a basis for fashioning judicial doctrines
that have been prejudicial and harmful to Native Americans.

Trail Marker Trees are ancient signposts from a time before GPS, compasses or maps. Shaped and molded by Native Americans while young saplings with the expectation they’d last for centuries, these living cultural navigational aids still point the way long after their makers have moved on.
Trail Marker Trees generally display several uncommon characteristics which, combined with an unusual number of such similarly “modified” trees and their appearance on known ancient trails and portages, identifies them as original Trail Marker Trees. Most commonly, it appears a young, flexible sapling (usually Oak) was tied down and a branch was allowed to grow upward from the place the tree was bent, thus becoming the main trunk. The original and now horizontal trunk was then cut off, leaving a rounded knob. . . . Read Complete report/w photos

Industrial Hemp
EXCERPTS
” After doing research and noting the worldwide market for hemp, in July 1998, the Tribal Council approved ‘industrial hemp agriculture’ for the reservation. With demand high for the crop, three Lakota farmers, Tom Cook, his wife Afraid of Bear and American Horse grandson of Chief American Horse formed the Slim Butte Land-Use Association.[100] To emphasize the issue of Sioux sovereignty in land use, they publicly announced the first planting of industrial hemp seeds on April 29, 2000, on the 132nd anniversary of the signing of the 1868 Fort Laramie Treaty, which established the reservation. The Association believed production of industrial hemp-based concrete could help solve the severe shortage of suitable dwellings on the reservation, as it is a sustainable construction material, and work for the unemployed. Hemp can also be processed to yield oil for cooking and other products. . . . In August 2000 and July 2001, federal DEA agents destroyed industrial hemp crops on the Pine Ridge reservation.” . . . Should the U.S. Give Mount Rushmore Back to the Sioux? The U.N. Thinks So
By Tim Newcomb | @tdnewcomb | May 9, 2012
For centuries, Native Americans have been on the receiving end of some of the worst atrocities committed on U.S. soil, driven from their homes and isolated on impoverished reservations. How can the U.S. government begin to repair the damage done to Native American communities, and compensate in some small way for the injuries done to them?
Well, giving back Mount Rushmore would be a start.
That’s among several suggestions made by United Nations special rapporteur James Anaya, who will formally recommend the U.S. restore land previously owned by various tribes — including the Black Hills of South Dakota, home of the famous national monument.
The granite promontory, carved with 60-ft high visages of four U.S. presidents, sits on a site considered sacred by the Sioux. . . . Read Complete Report
It started in the fevered imagination on the way-out fringes of the Right, with Director of Issues Analysis for the Christian conservative group the American Family Association Bryan Fischer. “President Obama, he said, “wants to give the entire land mass of the United States of America back to the Indians. He wants Indian tribes to be our new overlords.” That as a result of Obama announcing that the U.S. would support the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People. In addition, during the campaign, Obama was made an honorary member of the Crow Tribe.

(Atlanta) Six hours southeast of Atlanta off the Georgia coast on Sapelo Island, archaeologists have unearthed the remains of an ancient walled city which predates the construction of many of Egypt’s pyramids. Known as the Sapelo Shell Ring Complex, this ancient city was constructed around 2300 B.C. and featured three neighborhoods each surrounded by circular walls twenty feet in height constructed from tons of seashells. Some of the earliest pottery in North America was also found buried in the remains of this lost city.
The site is quite an enigma because at the time of its construction the Native Americans living in the area were simple hunters and gatherers who had yet to invent agriculture. Many scholars believe agriculture is a prerequisite for civilization. Did these simple tribal people somehow make the leap from hunting-and-gathering to civilization in a single bound producing not only a walled city but also the new technology of pottery without the benefit of agriculture? Or did an already civilized people arrive on the coast of Georgia from elsewhere and, if so, where did they come from and why? . . . Read complete report w/photos
Taxpayers Funding Heroin Vaccine as Govt Keeps Cannabis Solution to Opioid Crisis Illegal
Source: The Free Thought Project By Justin Gardnern July 9, 2017
The feds gladly fund development of anti-opioid vaccines for Big Pharma profits, but continue the war on a plant that is already proven to reduce opioid use.
After 20 years of patented opioid painkillers flooding America thanks to the pharmaceutical industry and careless doctors, the United States finds itself in a raging opioid epidemic.
The numbers are telling: 80 percent of the global opioid supply is consumed in the U.S., representing about 300 million prescriptions in 2015 alone or “enough drugs to give every single American 64 Percocets or Vicodin.”
As pain pill prescriptions have surged, overdose deaths from these legal drugs now total about 15,000 every year. When people can’t afford patented pills anymore, they turn to heroin, which killed almost 13,000 people in 2015—a 23 percent increase in one year. . . . Read Complete Report

Confirmed: Opioid Use Plummets in States with Legal Cannabis, and How Govt Ignores this Truth
Source: The Free Thought Project By Justin Gardner
Yesterday we reported how Congress’ “opioid bill,” or Comprehensive Addiction & Recovery Act (CARA), was a hollow achievement, as it ignored medical cannabis alternatives and said nothing about the role of Big Pharma in the opioid abuse epidemic
Among the information missing from the conversation was an eye-opening study done last year. A JAMA Internal Medicine study looked at ten years of data in all 50 states, concluding that states with medical cannabis laws had significantly lower rates of opioid overdose mortality. . . . Apache land could be given away to a foreign mining company after the House approved a bill that would allow Resolution Copper to acquire land in the Tonto National Forest in Arizona in exchange for parcels scattered around the state. Resolution Copper plans a massive deep underground copper mine using a technique called block caving and the leader of the San Carlos Apache Tribe is asking the Senate not to vote on the annual National Defense Authorization Act until a provision that would allow the massive copper mining project on sacred land to be removed. We look at the land swap legislation, in this Lip News clip with Mark Sovel and Elliot Hill.
