Tennessee Bill Would Abolish Civil Forfeiture

A new bill would eliminate civil forfeiture in Tennessee. Unlike criminal forfeiture, under civil forfeiture police do not need to convict or even charge a property owner before seizing his property. Civil forfeiture turns “innocent until proven guilty” on its head by forcing owners to prove their innocence to recover the seized property.
In good news for property owners across the Volunteer State, State Rep. Barrett Rich, a former Tennessee state trooper, has introduced HB 1078. If the bill passes, seizing property would require a warrant. In addition, forfeiture and title transfer of property would take place only under due process of law and if “the owner of the property in question is prosecuted and convicted.” The bill has one other cosponsor, Rep. Joey Hensley, and is currently in committee.

Letting his Deep State advisers talk him into bringing back the unconstitutional “Civil Forfeiture” laws; (shot down by Congress, thank God); not sticking up to his campaign statements that the legalization of hemp is a States Rights issue, not a federal Issue; and his seemingly lack of really caring about the great immediate needs of our fellow U.S Citizens in Puerto Rico. After all their Island was IS a casualty of the Deep States Weather War against Americans. The least they can do is step up to the plate and really help those people.

Snopes attempted to debunk a very real threat to the 4th Amendment by making up a false statement and using it as a red herring.Snopes.com has made its name as the truthful source that debunks crazy conspiracy theories and “fake news” on the internet, but its response to a story on legislation allowing warrantless searches is in need of its own fact check.
As Snopes correctly noted, the story in question was published by The Free Thought Project on Aug. 24, and is on the subject of House Joint Resolution 76.
