Using waste hemp fibers as the starting material, researchers at the University of Alberta in Canada have developed a high-performance electrode material for supercapacitors at one thousandth the cost of the more commonly used graphene. The advance could lead to supercapacitors that are both cheaper and able to operate under harsh environmental conditions.

Despite a bad reputation, hemp is a truly remarkable plant. It can be grown on the cheap, requiring very little care even in very cold and dry environments, and has many uses, ranging from construction material to clothing, bioplastics, and even biofuel creation. . . . Read Complete Report

Hemp For Victory (1942)
Hemp For Victory is a 1942 film documentary made to encourage farmers to grow hemp during World War 2 because other industrial fibers, often imported from overseas, were in short supply. The film shows a history of hemp and hemp products, how hemp is grown, and how hemp is processed into rope, cloth, cordage, and other products.

Florida: Top Lawyer & #1 Supporter of Medical Marijuana filed a lawsuit to overturn the state’s ban on smoking medical marijuana

John Morgan and his firm are one of the best known “Peoples Law firms” in the state and has become a local hero in his support of making medical marijuana available to Florida Residents.  Most of the money spent in the legalization movement has come from him personally.

Due in large part to Mr. Morgan’s involvement in our last election 71% of Florida’s voters voted “yes” on legalizing medical marijuana and it became added to our state constitution.

However as has been happening all over our country Florida Legislatures have forgotten that they are in Tallahassee to perform the will of the people and are trying every way they can think of to stop this State Constitutional Amendment.  Mr. Morgan is our champion in the fight to stop this movement. . . . Your Editor Dennis Crenshaw

A Letter from John Morgan ESQ. to your editor Dennis Crenshaw Dated 7/6/17

Dennis,

Today, I am filing a lawsuit to overturn the state’s ban on smoking medical marijuana, which everyone knows is in direct contradiction to the constitutional amendment we passed.

The ban is unconstitutional, and as promised, we are going to take it to the courts and win.

Getting anything passed through the legislature, as you know, was an accomplishment. Tallahassee politicians often forget who the they are working for.

know who I am working for: The patients and all of you who have fought with us for years to make sure those patients have access to the medicine they need.

Now, thanks to our collective efforts, most patients will get that access via certain types of marijuana. But it’s not enough and not everything the voters passed.

So we start the new fight today in the courts. And we will continue to fight anywhere and any place where the will of the voters is attempting to be side-railed or ignored.

We are unified in this fight and we will bring our cause to a complete and unasterisked victory soon.

Please help us fund this fight and bring even more forces to bear against those that would stand against patients by donating here.

Believe,

John Morgan

Clear majority favors legal marijuana, new Gallup poll shows

Americans who believe marijuana should remain illegal are now in the minority, according to new poll numbers released Tuesday.

For the first time ever in a Gallup poll, a clear majority of the country – 58 percent – say that pot should be legalized. That figure represents an increase of 10 percentage points since last year, according to Gallup. The poll surveyed 1,028 Americans by phone Oct. 3-6.

Those in favor of legalization skew young and liberal, though the biggest increase of support came among people identified as independents. Sixty-two percent of independents favored legalization in 2013, up 12 percentage points from last year, according to the poll. Sixty-five percent of Democrats favored legalization, vs. just 35 percent of Republicans. . . . Read Complete Report

Three photos of Marijuana in L.A. Jail in 1951

square-1951-marijuanacop-thumb-205x205Retronaut.com is a seriously cool site for fans of quirky, odd historical photos as evidenced by these three strangely hysterical shots of cops and a scraggly little pot plant.

We don’t have much information on these photos, other than they are from the Van Nuys police department from 1951 and somehow wound up as part of the University of Southern California. Apparently someone sent a pot plant to the jail without any explanation and the cops had no idea what to do with it, or themselves . . . Complete Article with photos.

Lila Leed in “She Shoulda Said No”

mitchum_Linda Leeds SOURCE National Enquirer“She Shoulda Said ‘No’!” (also known as Wild Weed; Marijuana, the Devil’s Weed; The Story of Lila Leeds and Her Exposé of the Marijuana Racket; and The Devil’s Weed) is a 1949 exploitation film that follows in the spirit of morality tales such as the 1936 films Reefer Madness and Marihuana. Directed by Sherman Scott and starring Lila Leeds, it was originally produced to capitalize on the arrest of Leeds and Robert Mitchum on a charge of marijuana conspiracy. The film was issued under many titles; it struggled to find a distributor until film presenter Kroger Babb picked up the rights, reissuing it as The Story of Lila Leeds and Her Exposé of the Marijuana Racket. Its relative success came only after the promotional posters were redone and a story fabricated that the film was being presented in conjunction with the United States Treasury.

MMJ Supporters Protest Obama Marijuana policy in Oakland (w/video)

medicalOakland — Hundreds of supporters of President Obama turned out to see him at Oakland’s Fox Theater on Monday afternoon. They lined up for blocks along Telegraph Avenue for the opportunity to see President Obama as he traveled from one fundraising event to another. Before the First Motorcade passed them though, a march of several hundred people instructed them variously to “Smoke weed every day,” “Stop the madness, spark a spliff,” and demand that their candidate keep his promise.

The activists gathered first at Oakland City Hall to protest U.S. Attorney Melinda Haag’s crusade against area dispensaries. This April, in apparent contravention of the publicly-stated will of President Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder, federal agents raided Oaksterdam University. Recently, Ms. Haag has also threatened to seize Harborside Health Center, where 100,000 patients have procured medicine over the last six years.

Representatives of the two dispensaries joined Judge Jim Gray, the Vice Presidential candidate on the Libertarian ticket, a handful of Occupy Oakland regulars, and a community of cannabis patents in front of around one hundred supporters.

Specifically, the group’s plea was for the President and the Attorney General to intervene in Ms. Haag’s anti-dispensary fight. Behind this, they have Obama’s previous statements and what they have been led to believe was official Justice Department policy, as articulated by Holder. Candidate Obama said in 2007, “I would not have the Justice Department prosecuting and raiding medical marijuana users; it is not a good use of our resources. AG Holder has promised to keep the Justice Department’s nose out of medical marijuana establishments unless they “are acting out of conformity with state law.” . . . Read Complete Report
