Alejuandro Rojas: Werewolves – the real deal & “Werewolves on Wheels” (full video)

Fri, 31 Aug 2012 08:38 CDTIn the movies werewolves enjoy much of the same mystique and magnetism as their archenemy… the vampire. Both are seductive bad boys, although romantic encounters with the prior are portrayed as carnal and wild, as opposed to the mesmerizing sophistication of vampiric liaisons. It is no wonder young heroines have a hard time making up their minds. Lucky for the parents of teenage girls, werewolves are only mythological creatures brewed up in the imaginations of creative storytellers. At least that was what I thought until I flipped through the pages of Linda Godfrey’s new book, Real Wolfmen: True Encounters in Modern America.  . . . Read Complete Report

Movie reviews, ‘Robot & Frank,’ (Trailer w/ commentary from Director)

This sounds like a movie that I’ll actually pay money to go to a blacked out building full of strangers and set in the dark and watch. Those movies are few and far between. . . EDITOR

Frank Langella is masterful as a lonely curmudgeon who rediscovers his purpose in life with some high-tech help.

Everything about “Robot & Frank” is as unlikely as it is irresistible. Charming, playful and sly, it makes us believe that a serene automaton and a snappish human being can be best friends forever.

Perhaps the most surprising aspect of this Sundance prize winner is the easy way it blends the impeccable old-school acting of Frank Langella with the youthful independent sensibility of a pair of first-time filmmakers, writer Christopher D. Ford and director Jake Schreier.

Though most indie filmmakers gravitate toward stories about the agonies of being under 30, old souls Schreier and Ford have made a film that deals, in the most good-humored way, with age, vulnerability and the need to always be of use in your own life. . . . Read Complete Review

It’s surprising to think that one of the most humanistic films of the year co-stars a machine, but that’s what you get with Jake Schreier’s new movie “Robot & Frank.” Legendary actor Frank Langella plays Frank, an elderly grump in the near-future whose children (Liv Tyler and James Marsden) worry constantly about him as he schlubs his way through his twilight years. Hoping to get his dad’s life back in order, his son orders him a robot (voiced by Peter Sarsgaard), a digitally-powered unit designed to function as a butler and caretaker in one. Initially resistant to his new addition, Frank — a “retired” jewel thief — quickly realizes that his robot may be good for more than just fetching glasses of milk.

Within Reach: Engineers to Add Arms and Hands to Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

from Science Daily

ScienceDaily (Aug. 2, 2012) — Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), such as those used by the military for surveillance and reconnaissance, could be getting a hand -and an arm- from engineers at Drexel University as part of a National Science Foundation grant to investigate adding dexterous limbs to the aircrafts. The project, whose subject harkens to the hovering android iconography of sci-fi movies, could be a step toward the use of UAVs for emergency response and search and rescue scenarios.

The team, led by Dr. Paul Oh, a professor in Drexel’s College of Engineering and head of the Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics department, will examine the reaction forces and torques associated with applying robotic arms to UAVs as part of his work in the Drexel Autonomous Systems Laboratory. . . . Did DEEPER: A Brief Historical Introduction to the Flying Car

from Storm Club

| Aug 26, 2011 |

If you thought flying cars were the domain of sci fi movies or the reality-stretching James Bond films – you’d be surprised. The concept has been around since the early days of motoring, when intrepid aviators and auto pioneers envisioned a time when cars ruled the sky as they did the road. The fact that in 2011 we don’t have a mass produced flying car is testament to the ill-fated efforts of some of those early innovators – but there is hope, thanks to twenty first century advances.

‘To Kill Or Not To Kill’ Interview with Bigfoot killer Justin Smeja

from Examiner.com

This has to be one of the most controversial interviews I have ever done. Many times we have discussed Bigfoot on my radio show The Church of Mabus. We have gotten into them from a researcher’s perspective and had many enlightening discussions about them. I have always been a pro advocate against killing them. I have written articles about them being portrayed in horror movies cruelly and wrongfully as murderers. But now the shoe is on the other foot with Justin Smeja. Justin claims to have shot an older and younger Bigfoot while hunting.

THEI DVD REVIEW – NAZIS at the Center of the Earth

Dennis Crenshaw – Editor

posted: 4/29/12

Last Thursday I stopped by my local Red Box to check out the latest DVD’s they had in the machine.  I bet you can almost imagine the look  of astonishment on my face. “NAZIS at the Center of the Earth” was the new release glaring back at me.   . . My first thought was that I was being Punked! (My conspiratorial  brain at work). In fact, I almost looked over my shoulder to see if my partner Rick Osmon was hiding in the parking lot.

Instead I rented the movie and headed home to watch it. On the way I thought about the whole concept. I have been researching the “just-out-of-reach” story of the Hollow Earth including the Nazi/Antarctica connection for the past 40 years wondering when a movie would be made regarding the rumors. Now they had finally done it. I just hoped it wasn’t hokey.  There have been several attempts to cover the Subterranean Worlds that have all been, well, hokey. Funny, making-fun. that was fine. I mean it is a far out idea.  But still . . .

Cast: Dominique Swain, Jake Busey, Christopher Karl Johnson, and Lilan Bowden.

To my enjoyable surprise the movie is well made, using top talent, great makeup and special effects (the “Flying Saucer” deserves a mention)  and is a lot of fun to watch.

Although some of the known history was stomped all over, i.e. In the movie Dr.Josef Mengele AKA the “Angel of Death” is the architect of the plan for a 4th Reich rising from the NAZIS who escaped to an underground base under the ice in Antarctica (Mengele died in 1978.)  Of course he has Hitler’s head in a portable contraption to appear to “head” the bunch of NAZIS he has with him to actually carry out the evil deeds.

When It came to the Hollow Earth information they presented it straight forward and factually in the form of Jake Busey filling in his companions as they traveled into the earth. Fair shake.

I was also delighted when they mounted Hitler’s head on a very muscular and large robot body and then turned piloting the ‘flying saucer’ over to the nut.  Superb.   After all,  I believe robotics figures into the plans of the Controllers in a big way. That’s why I just added a Department, Robotics to THEI. (Check it out). The NAZI solders stomping around appear to be robots also.

But even if I had known nothing of the subjects used in this top-of-the-line adventure story, I would still have enjoyed it immensely .  Reminds me of the great movies by Roger Corman.

I give it 4 stars. A must see. I predict this movie will become a big cult classic.  And if you are a Hollowearther and don’t run out right now and get your hands on a copy I’m ashamed of you . . . EDITOR

BONUS. Here is a posting of part of an interview I gave for a Science Channel program several years ago. They kind of edited the interview that changed what I said, but at least I was able to get the information to a wider audience. What more can a researcher of unpopular ideas expect. Not much. . . .EDITOR

Time Travel and Modern Physics

First published Thu Feb 17, 2000; substantive revision Wed Dec 23, 2009

Time travel has been a staple of science fiction. With the advent of general relativity it has been entertained by serious physicists. But, especially in the philosophy literature, there have been arguments that time travel is inherently paradoxical. The most famous paradox is the grandfather paradox: you travel back in time and kill your grandfather, thereby preventing your own existence. To avoid inconsistency some circumstance will have to occur which makes you fail in this attempt to kill your grandfather. Doesn’t this require some implausible constraint on otherwise unrelated circumstances? We examine such worries in the context of modern physics. . . . read complete report

Professor predicts human time travel this century

With a brilliant idea and equations based on Einstein’s relativity theories, Ronald Mallett from the University of Connecticut has devised an experiment to observe a time traveling neutron in a circulating light beam. While his team still needs funding for the project, Mallett calculates that the possibility of time travel using this method could be verified within a decade. . . . Read complete report

One of mankind’s greatest dreams is the development of a time machine. The argument as to whether it is even possible to go forward or back in time is an age old argument. The Best and Worst Time Travel Movies

by Jason Dietz, Metacritic Features Editor

March 23, 2010

From hot tubs to DeLoreans

Looking for a good time

It’s not just the best thing to happen to movie titles since Snakes on a Plane; the new comedy Hot Tub Time Machine (opening Friday, March 26) is also the latest in a long line of time travel movies, stretching back from at least the 1940s into (we presume) the distant future.

The new film depicts a group of friends who are transported back to 1986 from the present day, thanks to their special hot tub. (We’re still not sure how the physics work, exactly.) Here, the time travel is played for laughs, but in other time travel movies — typically, science-fiction films — the aim might be to scare, thrill, or provoke deep thought.

Of course, such films are not always successful. Below, we look at the best and worst movies featuring time travel, starting with the good. . . . continue to lists
