This sounds like a movie that I’ll actually pay money to go to a blacked out building full of strangers and set in the dark and watch. Those movies are few and far between. . . EDITOR
Frank Langella is masterful as a lonely curmudgeon who rediscovers his purpose in life with some high-tech help.
Everything about “Robot & Frank” is as unlikely as it is irresistible. Charming, playful and sly, it makes us believe that a serene automaton and a snappish human being can be best friends forever.
Perhaps the most surprising aspect of this Sundance prize winner is the easy way it blends the impeccable old-school acting of Frank Langella with the youthful independent sensibility of a pair of first-time filmmakers, writer Christopher D. Ford and director Jake Schreier.
Though most indie filmmakers gravitate toward stories about the agonies of being under 30, old souls Schreier and Ford have made a film that deals, in the most good-humored way, with age, vulnerability and the need to always be of use in your own life. . . . Read Complete Review
It’s surprising to think that one of the most humanistic films of the year co-stars a machine, but that’s what you get with Jake Schreier’s new movie “Robot & Frank.” Legendary actor Frank Langella plays Frank, an elderly grump in the near-future whose children (Liv Tyler and James Marsden) worry constantly about him as he schlubs his way through his twilight years. Hoping to get his dad’s life back in order, his son orders him a robot (voiced by Peter Sarsgaard), a digitally-powered unit designed to function as a butler and caretaker in one. Initially resistant to his new addition, Frank — a “retired” jewel thief — quickly realizes that his robot may be good for more than just fetching glasses of milk.

Boy… talk about talking out of both sides of you mouth at once!
But then again you cant blame the NAACP. After all Eric (With) Holder has been charged with Contempt of Congress. The NAACP leadership might have felt that there might have been a process server in the crowd. Or better yet some law officer not in (With)Holder’s pocket might have been there to arrest Mr. (With) Holder. Checking ID’s might just weed the honest men out before they have a chance to serve or arrest Mr. (With)Holder
But still there’s great humor in this.
You gotta have photo ID to watch Mr. (With)Holder give a speech explaining why you don’t have to have a Photo ID to vote. . . . In other words the vanity of this present administration is such that you have to have ID to watch a liar talk but you don’t need one to vote them out.
In many states you need a photo ID to buy a pack of cigarettes, but you don’t need one to vote. Of course the cigarettes might harm your body so the government needs to “protect young bodies while letting undocumented voters vote will only harm our country. Really does make since doesn’t it?.
And just think, unlike 3rd country voters – we don’t even get to dip our fingers in blue ink to prove we don’t vote more that once. Go figure.
This whole deal sounds like something out of a B-grade NAZI movie. . . EDITOR
Earlier today, Attorney General Eric Holder addressed the NAACP Nation Convention at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas. What did media need in order to attend? That’s right, government issued photo identification (and a second form of identification too!), something both Holder and the NAACP stand firmly against when it comes to voting. Holder’s DOJ is currently suing Texas for “discriminatory” voter ID laws. From the press release:
All media must present government-issued photo I.D. (such as a driver’s license) as well as valid media credentials. Members of the media must RSVP to receive press credentials at http://action.naacp.org/page/s/registration. For security purposes, media check-in and equipment set up must be completed by 7:45 a.m. CDT for an 8:00 a.m. CDT security sweep. Once the security sweep is completed, additional media equipment will NOT be permitted to enter and swept equipment will NOT be permitted to exit. . . . Read Complete Report
Thought this was a good time to add this recording of the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre to our growing archives. What does it have to do with our publications subject matter? Nothing, I just wanted to exercise my weird sense of humor.
As with all the videos we feature here at the Hollow Earth Insider it’s enjoyed best when viewed in full screen mode. . . EDITOR
Much is said about the failed “War on Drugs” as a program that MUST continue no matter the cost, I’m afraid I have to disagree. The present drug policy is idiocy at work. . . or not at work.
The first step would be to separate REAL drugs from light drugs. instead of spending so much on Marijuana control, a substance that every study since the 1800s has found not to be the danger that, starting with Nixon, has gotten so much bad press.
It seems to me that being truthful about the lack of dangers of herb would make the job of controlling crack, coke, heron etc. a lot easier and a lot less costlier if the powers that be would stop using lies and propaganda to lump the hemp plant in with their manufactured dangerous drugs. Every study of the plant its leaves and stems, has found little or no medical, psychological, or “dependance” associated with the herb. Lets face it, the only reason pot is illegal is because it would put a big dent in the Controllers pocket book and Richard Nixon’s total paranoia about anything he could not understand. . . which, as history has show wasn’t much. With that said, I have decided to add this new category to our growing list of Departments. . . Editor
Boston — A proposed ballot question that would legalize the medicinal use of marijuana in Massachusetts is being bankrolled almost entirely by an Ohio billionaire who has backed similar efforts in other states.
According to state campaign finance reports, Peter Lewis, chairman of the board of the auto insurer Progressive Corp. contributed $525,000 to the Committee for Compassionate Medicine, which is supporting the question . . . Read complete report
USA — The drive to legalize marijuana has long been a fringe cause, associated with hard-core libertarians and college-age stoners. But it could go mainstream in a big way in this November’s election, when Washington could become the first state to legalize recreational pot use. If it does — or if voters in any of several other states do — this year could be a turning point in the nation’s treatment of marijuana. . . Read Complete Report

Washington, DC: “We need, and I use the word ‘all out war,’ or all fronts . . . .” That was Richard Nixon’s reaction to his national commission’s recommendation that marijuana no longer be a criminal offense, according to Nixon’s Oval Office tapes. The year after Nixon’s “all out war” marijuana arrests jumped by over 100,000 people.
WAKE UP AMERICA, we need a drug policy that works. The following report from “Common Sense for Drug Policy” is a start. Link to National Drug Control Strategy 1999.
Attorney General, Eric Holder’s tenure has been pockmarked by deception, lies and inconsistencies, culminating in the botched “Fast and Furious” firearms sting that ran from September 2009, until December 2010 and saw U.S. officials “walk” more than 2,500 assault weapons into drug-infested corridors of Mexico, only to lose track of the guns. Tragically, those weapons have resulted in the deaths of hundreds of Mexicans and U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian A. Terry.
Dissatisfied with Holder’s lack of honesty, accountability over the “Fast and Furious” scandal as well as increasing public demand for answers, 40 Republicans sent a letter urging President Obama to ask for Holder’s resignation. . . go to webpage
