An acquaintance reminded me of this the other day. I read it years ago while looking into the history of the Civilian Marksmanship Program, which was a direct outgrowth of the Dick Act aka the Militia Act of 1903. By Acts of Congress established a three level defense for our nation and provided a legal boundary of national, state, and private citizen militia where the national command authority had control over the Army, Navy, and Marines. There was not yet an Air Force and the Coast Guard then was part of the Treasury Department. The President could call up the National Guard for self defense purposes, but could not order their deployment overseas. The governors could call up the National Guard for emergencies inside their state. The Governors could also call up the unorganized militia, but the President could not. That’s right, the Militia Act of 1903 established by law provisions for an “unorganized militia” in each of the various states. Richard Castaldo was shot 8 times during the school schooting at Columbine High School. After surviving the massacre, Castaldo continues to fight, this time for his home in Los Angeles. He fell behind on his mortgage payments and now, his condo is up for auction. However, Occupy activists are standing behind him, trying to keep Castaldo from being evicted.

One of the great myths of modern society is that the police are heavily armed and have both ammo and personnel in huge numbers. In reality, it’s quite the opposite: police and sheriffs are dangerously under-staffed all across the country in nearly every city and town.
Furthermore, severe budget cuts have left law enforcement with dwindling ammunition supplies. In some departments, it’s so bad that nearly the only ammo available is what officers are carrying on their duty belts.
Vice President Joe Biden announced Thursday that he will recommend new gun control measures to President Barack Obama, which include more comprehensive background checks on gun buyers and limits on the sizes of ammunition magazines. The proposal could lead to the most significant move on guns in 20 years, but one regulation highly coveted by gun control advocates was notably missing: a ban on assault weapons.
In 1994, President Bill Clinton managed to push through a sweeping ban on certain kinds of semi-automatic weapons, dealing a crushing blow to the National Rifle Association and other gun lobbyists and sparking a political backlash that helped Republicans reclaim the House and Senate for the first time in 50 years. . . . That’s what’s on the minds of gun owners and lobbyists and activists on both sides of the gun control debate – will President Barack Obama call for an assault weapons ban in the wake of a spate of deadly mass shootings or not?
Politically, such a ban doesn’t stand much chance of passing Congress, with a Republican House. It’s not even clear a ban would pass the Senate, despite its Democratic majority.

Occupy LA movement activists are suing the city of Los Angeles for their civil rights violations. In November 2011 some protesters were detained while staging an eight-week-long encampment at City Hall teamed up with the Occupy Wall Street movement. Police responded by performing a sweep that affected nearly 300 demonstrators. The group has now filed an A class lawsuit accusing the law enforcement officials of violating human rights and mistreating the protesters in penitentiary. One of the named plaintiffs in the case, Michael Prysner joins us for more.
On November 30th last year around 300 protesters were arrested at the Los Angeles City Hall after being camped out in the vicinity for over two months. An estimated 1400 police officers showed up and blazed through the encampment in what protesters are now calling a “shock and awe” attack on their rights. The movement activists have now filed A class action lawsuit for the arrests and the protesters’ treatment while in custody. RT’s Ramon Galindo brings the latest from Los Angeles

Privacy advocates point to latest DC scandal as evidence of growing problem
The continuing turmoil surrounding David Petraeus’s sexual escapades with biographer Paula Broadwell has privacy-rights activistscrying foul. Not over Petraeus’s affair, but over how seemingly easy it is for the FBI to gain access to multiple private email accounts without a warrant, and to do so for relatively insignificant reasons.

Bailiffs cleared out anti-capitalist activists and their belongings from a site underneath HSBC bank’s Asian headquarters in Hong Kong on Tuesday – ending one of the global Occupy movement’s longest-running encampments. Skirmishes broke out after bailiffs and bank guards arrived in the morning to clear out the activists, who had ignored a court order requiring them to leave by 27 August. Some were carried or dragged away and taken outside a perimeter, where they were let go. In further advancement of the New World Order, progressives have plans to implement Agenda 21 during Barack Obama’s second term. Some people know a little about Agenda 21, while others know absolutely nothing. It bears perusal. Republicans, as well as Democrats, are in on it. It is increasingly becoming difficult to know whom to trust. Remember, absolute power corrupts absolutely. So what is Agenda 21?
In a nutshell, the plan calls for governments to take control of all land use and not leave any of the decision-making in the hands of private property owners. It is assumed that people are not good stewards of their land and the government will do a better job if they are in control. Individual rights in general are to give way to the needs of communities as determined by the governing body. A Lubbock County judge’s comments last week that President Obama might cede U.S. sovereignty to the United Nations and spark a civil war have been widely ridiculed. But concerns about U.N. overreach are gaining ground, with the attacks mostly focused on a 20-year-old nonbinding U.N. resolution called Agenda 21.

Al Hulick remembers, to the day, when Agenda 21 came into his world.
It was May 17, 2011, at an informational meeting on whether Janesville should join the state’s Green Tier program. Some attendees reacted skeptically, handing out literature about Agenda 21, a non-binding pact to promote sustainable growth drafted by the United Nations in 1992.
“I had never heard of it,” said Hulick, a management analyst for the city. An activist was designated as a terror suspect put on the terrorism watchlist, which was used to prevent him from protesting at the week’s DNC in Charlotte.
Activists James Tyson was shocked when he was giving an extremely high $10,000 bail after being pulled over on his way to protest at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte.
Court documents show prosecutors were able to get such an unreasonably high bail set because they argued he was a dangerous person listed on the Department of Homeland Security’s terrorism watch list.
Tyson’s only two previous run-ins with law enforcement were for fishing out of season and driving while impaired.
Even more ostensible is prosecutors argued that Tyson be held in jail without bail until after the DNC was over. . . . Read Complete report
Current Department of Defense anti-terrorism training course material states that the exercise of First Amendment rights in the U.S. constitutes terrorist activity.
The ACLU has written to the DoD regarding its Antiterrorism and Force Protection Annual Refresher Training Course, which advises personnel that political protest amounts to “low-level terrorism”.

Obama’s Department of Justice is demanding a federal judge dismiss the injunction with which she sought to uphold the constitutional rights of the American people.
On May 16th, federal judge Kathleen Forrest granted a preliminary injunction to plaintiffs in a lawsuit filed against Barack Obama and the National Defense Authorization Act of 2012 (NDAA), striking down those sections of the Act that provide the president the power to indefinitely detain American citizens without benefit of their 5th and 6th Amendment rights.
Under the terms of the Act, Obama had been given exclusive authority to direct members of the US military to arrest and imprison anyone he believed to have “substantially supported” al Qaeda, the Taliban, or “associated forces.” When pressed by plaintiff’s attorneys about the practical extent of this authority, government lawyers admitted “…the NDAA does give the president the power to lock up people like journalist Chris Hedges and peaceful activists,” admitting that “…even war correspondents could be locked up indefinitely under the NDAA.” . . . After 15 days in jail, 31 year old Danny L. Johnson, Chicago NATO protestor and member of Occupy Los Angeles and Occupy Walk USA, was released the evening of Tuesday, Aug. 14 from Cook County jail on an ankle bracelet home arrest e-monitoring program. Activists in Chicago and around the country helped post his bail Monday, Aug. 13, and establish a Chicago address for Johnson to be released to. Johnson returned to Chicago Monday, July 30 to turn himself in after learning that dropped charges acquired when was arrested in Chicago for protesting the NATO Summit earlier in the year, were reinstated by Cook County State Attorney Anita Alvarez through a grand jury indictment. On June 29 a bench warrant was issued for Johnson’s arrest on two felony counts of battery on an officer -although original dropped charges were one felony count of battery on an officer and one misdemeanor count of obstruction of traffic.
Some are saying the charges were re-filed by Alvarez under pressure from Mayor Rahn Emanuel, and, according to local Chicago activists Adesina, as part of a “political agenda to use every avenue available to criminalize NATO protestors.” . . . Read complete Report
