The Nowhere-To-Run Diaries: A Week After Maria, Hope Is Fading Fast In Puerto Rico

Source: HuffPost By Hermes Ayala

Problems are a dime a dozen in paradise lost.

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico ― In the depths of the largest public housing project in the Caribbean, activist Antonio Látimer (aka “Puruco”) doesn’t know what more he can do.

“We’re running out of potable water. Out of food. We’ve got a lot of people sick with diarrhea. There’s conjunctivitis sprouts all over and no medicines. No one from the government has come to see us. They’ve left us alone,” Puruco, a former basketball star and now a community leader at the Luis Llorens Torres public housing complex in San Juan, said Thursday. . . . Read Complete Report

Profits vs. Puerto Rican Lives: Trump Admin Blocks Aid from Reaching Devastated Island

Democracy Now!

 Published on Sep 27, 2017
https://democracynow.org – One week after Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico, President Donald Trump says he will visit the island next Tuesday, even as most of the 3.5 million U.S. citizens who live there remain in the dark, without access to power, clean water, food and fuel. Facing withering criticism, Trump held a press conference Tuesday and denied he has neglected the disaster. His administration also denied a request from several members of Congress to waive shipping restrictions to help get gasoline and other supplies to Puerto Rico as it recovers, even though the Department of Homeland Security waived the Jones Act twice in the last month following hurricanes Harvey and Irma, which hit the mainland United States. We speak with Democracy Now! co-host Juan González and with former New York State Assemblyman Nelson Denis, who wrote about the Jones Act in The New York Times this week in a piece headlined “The Law Strangling Puerto Rico.” His book is called “War Against All Puerto Ricans: Revolution and Terror in America’s Colony.”

Lars Schall: 70 years ago, on September 18, 1947, the National Security Act created the Central Intelligence Agency, CIA. Douglas, you refer to the CIA as “the organized crime branch of the U.S. government.” Why so?

Douglas Valentine: Everything the CIA does is illegal, which is why the government provides it with an impenetrable cloak of secrecy. While mythographers in the information industry portray America as a bastion of peace and democracy, CIA officers manage criminal organizations around the world. For example, the CIA hired one of America’s premier drug trafficker in the 1950s and 1960s, Santo Trafficante, to murder Fidel Castro. In exchange, the CIA allowed Trafficante to import tons of narcotics into America. The CIA sets up proprietary arms, shipping, and banking companies to facilitate the criminal drug trafficking organizations that do its dirty work. Mafia money gets mixed up in offshore banks with CIA money, until the two are indistinguishable.

Drug trafficking is just one example. . . . Read Complete Report

Monsanto will do anything to protect the reputation of Roundup and its other herbicide products – which earned them $1.9 billion in gross profits in 2015 alone – and that includes silencing their detractors. . . . Read Complete Report

Multiple Legislators Looking To Neutralize AG Sessions’ Rollback Of Federal Forfeiture Reforms

EXCERPT

“Asset forfeiture is coming back, too. Sessions has opened the federal loophole closed by his predecessor, allowing local agencies to give the finger to legislators and the people they serve as they bypass local reform efforts and cash in on other people’s property. Sessions appeared to bethis close to visible arousal when discussing the return of the Federal Forfeiture Loophole during a law enforcement conference in Alabama.

“I love that program,” Sessions said. “We had so much fun doing that, taking drug dealers’ money and passing it out to people trying to put drug dealers in jail. What’s wrong with that?” . . . Read Complete Report

FDA Approves Synthetic THC for Pharma Co. Behind Anti-Pot Lobby and Opioid Bribery Scheme

FDA Approves Synthetic THC for Pharma Co. Behind Anti-Pot Lobby and Opioid Bribery Scheme

Source: The Free Thought Project

A Big Pharma company, Insys caught bribing doctors to prescribe opioids and lobbying against pot, just got their second synthetic THC approved by FDA.

The historic Nov. 2016 ballot initiatives to legalize cannabis brought a resounding win for freedom in several states, with the exception of Arizona. There, voters narrowly rejected decriminalization, in no small part due to a massive anti-pot propaganda campaign funded in-part by Big Pharma.

Arizona-based Insys Therapeutics gave $500,000 to a group called Arizonans for Responsible Drug Policy, which amounted to 10 percent of the group’s total money used to manufacture and disseminate anti-pot propaganda. Some of the scare tactics Insys used itself was to claim that legalization “fails to protect the safety of Arizona’s citizens, and particularly its children,” and that production of “narcotic raw materials” promotes abuse.

Both of these claims are patently absurd coming from a pharma corporation under investigation for bribery and marketing fraud relating to its synthetic opioid Subsys — . . . Read Complete Report
