Man seeks to stage around-the-world blimp race

(CNN) — Don Hartsell knows his idea could be considered crazy.

“I thought this project was so large, so ambitious, that no one would take me seriously,” says the Texas resident and aircraft enthusiast. “In fact, I was concerned they would think I was insane.”

Hartsell is talking about his World Sky Race, which as conceived would be a grand global spectacle. If all goes according to plan, a fleet of airships will take off from London in 2014 and race each other around the world, watched by millions of spectators, before finishing six months later just outside of Paris.

The event is planned as a series of 18 back-to-back races that will circumnavigate the globe. Although the route isn’t finalized, the proposed path will take pilots over at least four continents and about 130 United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization(UNESCO) World Heritage sites — among them the Egyptian pyramids, the Taj Mahal, the Statue of Liberty and the Palace of Versailles. . . . US Military Adds Blimps to Patrol Border

By

Published August 15, 2012

With the United States’ conflicts in the Arab world drawing to a close, the government is using some of the technology honed on battlefields overseas on the home front.

Over the next few weeks, the U.S. military will begin to test a 72-foot-long, unmanned surveillance blimp in southern Texas that could be used to spot drug traffickers and undocumented immigrants entering the U.S. via its border with Mexico. Read Complete Report

DNA clues to Queen of Sheba tale plus King Soloman (full movie)

Clues to the origins of the Queen of Sheba legend are written in the DNA of some Africans, according to scientists.

Genetic research suggests Ethiopians mixed with Egyptian, Israeli or Syrian populations about 3,000 years ago.

This is the time the queen, mentioned in great religious works, is said to have ruled the kingdom of Sheba.

The research, published in The American Journal of Human Genetics, also sheds light on human migration out of Africa 60,000 years ago.

According to fossil evidence, human history goes back longer in Ethiopia than anywhere else in the world. But little has been known until now about the human genetics of Ethiopians. . . . Read Complete Report

And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the Lord caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.  Exodus 14: 21

Whether or not you subscribe to the Judeo-Christian beliefs, you’ve likely heard the story of God parting the Red Sea and allowing the children of Israel to pass unharmed, delivering them from the Egyptian army who succumbed to the sea after Moses waved his hand and the water crashed down over them.

The epic tale was immortalized by Cecil B. DeMille in his famous The Ten Commandments of 1956 starring Charlton Heston as Moses.

To believers, this is a true story and is a historical example of God’s extraordinary supernatural might, as well as His mercy for His people.  To non-believers, it is a fairy tale.

But, what if it is all true?  What if evidence came to light that proved that the events as described in Exodus actually happened, exactly how the Bible/Torah said they did.  Would you believe? . . . Read Complete Article

Great Pyramid Starmap Etching Depicts Age of 9200 bce

The etching of a starmap centered exactly above Gantenbrink’s Door, in the “airshaft’ running up and away south from the Queen’s Chamber in the great pyramid, depicts some amazing surprises for us all, if we would only do the research. No hieroglyphs here at all; just celestial markings. These markings were NOT purposeless graffiti; because if purposeless graffiti were allowed, then markings would have been found all over the pyramid, and they were not. All facets of the pyramid were aligned to a Northmark – INCLUDING the shaft pointing south – to align that shaft to something different than the true north sky (what everything else was aligned to) would have caused failure in the engineering.

Is there one above the north shaft door? I do not know, because we were in such a rush to drill holes in things, that we failed to follow the scientific method and document the walls, pollen, markings, techniques and patina untouched, first.

Retro: Archaeology and Curses (w/ Video)

Anyone having a momentary thought about curses would hardly couple them with anything related to archaeology. Or would they? Is there any connection? It is true that archaeologists locate many ancient artifacts that contain writings that when deciphered or translated reveal calculated curses.

It is also true that many rumors have developed into grand stories of curses that strike down archaeologists or any other would-be intruder into the bowels of a tomb or some other sacred centre.

The Curse of the Mummy

King Tutankhamun’s tomb in Egypt is one of the most famous of the archaeological curse stories. Howard Carter had led an Egyptian archaeological expedition and up until and after the discovery of Tutankhamun’s Tomb, had not noticed any particular anomalies on the site . . . Read Complete Report

Retro: The Lost Subterranean Civilization of the Grand Canyon, A Smithsonian Secret?

It has been some years since I did my own study of G.E. Kincaid and his claimed discovery, the remnants of a lost Grand Canyon Civilization in an extensive cave system. One of our underground [no pun] correspondents sent me most of the following information about this famous subterranean mystery.

One thing I would like to address before you begin. Debunkers love to claim that during the late 1800s thru the early 1900s newspapers all over the country were using “yellow journalism” – making up stories –  to sell newspapers. This is one of those cases. I wholeheartedly disagree. In fact I wrote a series of articles with what I feel discredits that way of thinking.  The series had to do with the newspaper reports of Flying Machines in 1897, but the same arguments fit here. You can read this series of articles at “Airship Mysteries of the 1800s” . . . EDITOR

THE ARIZONA GAZETTE of April 5th, 1909                                            Text of original Grand Canyon article

Report from long time Insider Correspondent:

To: THEI (USA)  FILED: 2/10/12

When the Smithsonian discovered an ancient  Egyptian colony in a Grand Canyon CAVERN

Did Egyptians cross the Pacific Ocean and wander the American Southwest thousands of years ago?

In the early 20th century, claims of such a discovery were made by two Smithsonian-funded archaeologists, who spoke of a thriving civilization tucked within a series of caverns carved into the side of a remote portion of the Grand Canyon. What did the archaeologists find? What evidence did they bring back? Hell, did these men even exist?

A parallel North American civilization?

A story on the front page of the April 5, 1909 edition of the Arizona Gazette recounted the discovery of a series of bizarre caves and artifacts in the Marble Canyon region of the Grand Canyon. The report claimed two Smithsonian-funded archaeologists, Prof. S. A. Jordan and G.E. Kincaid, [NOTE: G.E. Kinkaid is sometimes spelled G. E. Kincaid] are responsible for the find. As the article noted:

[These] discoveries which almost conclusively prove that the race which inhabited this mysterious cavern, hewn in solid rock by human hands, was of oriental origin, possibly from Egypt, tracing back to Ramses. If their theories are borne out by the translation of the tablets engraved with hieroglyphics, the mystery of the prehistoric peoples of North America, their ancient arts, who they were and whence they came, will be solved. Egypt and the Nile, and Arizona and the Colorado will be linked by a historical chain running back to ages which staggers the wildest fancy of the fictionist.

Later in the article, a cross-legged idol resembling Buddha is described along with a large tomb filled with mummified humans: a veritable mash-up of Egyptian and East Asian cultures.

A dangerous region to explore
Although this remote area of the Grand Canyon makes for perilous traveling, expeditions by private collectors and academics went forward. The site of Kincaid’s discovery was roughly 42 miles away from El Tovar Crystal Canyon, and the Arizona Gazette article noted that the cavern’s entrance was 1500 feet down a sheer cliff. This is not the easiest terrain to cover, but it’s topography that could be overcome today.

Conspiracy theorist John Rhodes claims to know the exact location of the caverns the site is guarded today by a lone soldier carrying an M-16 and that the caverns are a museum for civilization’s shadowy elites. To make things even more bizarre, David Icke connects Kincaid’s Grand Canyon discovery with reptilian overlords in his 1999 book The Biggest Secret.

Smithsonian denials
No record exists of Kincaid or Professor Jordan within the Smithsonian’s Department of Anthropology, nor is there a paper trail at the Smithsonian detailing the artifacts gathered on the expedition. When asked directly about Kincaid’s claims, a Smithsonian Institute representative once said:

Well, the first thing I can tell you, before we go any further, is that no Egyptian artifacts of any kind have ever been found in North or South America. Therefore, I can tell you that the Smithsonian Institute has never been involved in any such excavations.

According to conspiracy theorists, the Smithsonian Institute went so far as to destroy artifacts to maintain this historical viewpoint. Espousers of this theory mention man-made mounds with plaster walls strewn across the American Midwest and a series of fire-hewn coffins found in Alabama in 1892 that were turned over the Smithsonian Institute, only to be lost in the years following.

A paucity of evidence
Kincaid and Jordan returned without artifacts or pictures of the findings
, leaving the Arizona Gazette article as the sole evidence of the expedition.

[NOTE: A second article mentioning Kincaid has been found – SEE BELOW . . . EDITOR]

No data outside of the article substantiates the existence of Professor Jordan, and Kincaid’s only other known reference comes in a March 12 article in the Arizona Gazette. [see below] The March 12 piece notes that Kincaid is in Yuma, Arizona. It mentions simply that he is an avid photographer who carries very high-end photography equipment. This is a particularly questionable tidbit, as no photos of Kincaid’s discovery of the mummified bodies or a Buddha-like statue exist, let alone general photos of this portion of the expedition.

It is possible that Kincaid, if he existed, worked under a false name, as the Arizona Gazette articles mentions his hunt for “the mineral”, a euphemism for gold? Theodore Roosevelt made the extraction of gold from the Grand Canyon illegal in 1908 when he deemed the canyon a national forest.

UPDATE from researcher Jack Andrews 2001 A second newspaper article Dated March 12, 1909  with a short story about “the explorer G. E. Kincaid.”
Much of the criticism leveled at this story makes reference to the barely researched assumption that this was a one time appearance of an “Inquirer” type yellow journalism headline story. As I have stated in this web site, the story was very unique in an otherwise pretty boring everyday mainstream Phoenix paper that was NOT even remotely prone to such “Inquirer” type sensationalism. Tyler Pauley has the well deserved credit for discovering what the debunkers wish never existed, and that is a previous article mentioning a casual reference to G. E. Kincaid arriving in Yuma. The article predates the April 5th date and was published March 12th 1909. Here is the article as I printed and scanned it directly from the microfilms of the Arizona Gazette of 1909. I have also typed the article so it can be more clearly read. As I have said, this story is much more mysterious, involved and complicated than it’s religious debunkers would like you to believe. It cannot be neatly labeled a “hoax” or “fraud”. Once one leaves the debunker’s realm of shoddy research and snap judgments based on emotion, rather than hard and serious objective research, it becomes evident that there is much more to this story than meets a the eye of a casual skim reading of the 1909 article. – Jack Andrews copyright 2001 may be only used in it’s entirety with this notice clearly visible. . . Remarkable Cave City Needs Guardian Angels

from popular-archaeology.com

Thu, Jan 12, 2012

Ruins of massive cave city in Europe a site to see, but needs help.

It is off the beaten path of world tourism. Unlike the great monuments of ancient Rome, Greece, Egypt, China and Mesoamerica, it sees comparatively fewer visitors. Yet if casual tourists or expeditionary scholars were to see it, they would likely say that it is every bit as impressive as the Roman Colosseum or the Pyramids of Giza. Built astride and into the sheer cliff face of a mountain, it resembles something of a hybrid of ancient Petra in Jordan and the Mesa Verde cliff dwellings of the U.S…..or, for those familiar with the Tolkien works, a Minas Tirith in ruins. Known as the cave city or monastery of Vardzia, it was dug into the side of Mount Erusheli near the town of Aspindza and the Mtkvari river in southern Georgia during the late 12th century. Today, it is a tourist destination for Georgians, Europeans and others throughout the world who know of its existence. But some of its remarkable remains will crumble away into oblivion if expert care and conservation is not realized in full. .  . .  Read complete extensive report w/photos

Last secret door of Great Pyramid ‘to be opened in 2012’, says British company

The secret gates at the heart of the Great Pyramid may be opened for the first time in 2012, a British robot company believes – solving a mystery that has puzzled archaeologists since 1872.

Scoutek UK had already begun exploring behind the gates earlier this year – and produced the first-ever images from behind the gates using a ‘micro snake’ robot. But the exploration was halted by the recent unrest in Egypt.

Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities stopped granting permits for research such as the Djedi robotic exploration of the Great Pyramid.

But it has recently started granting permits again.

‘We’re still waiting for permission to return to the pyramid,’ Whitehead told Mail Online today. ‘In the meantime, we have been working on enhancing the robot.’

‘The main plan is to carefully survey and document the shafts, to gather as much information as possible to allow archaeologists to determine their purpose.  We also still plan to look beyond the blocking stones at the ends of the shafts, if it is safe and practical to do so.’ . .Read more
