A Senate panel is taking a look at the possibility of turning Washington, DC into the 51st state. Over 630,000 people currently reside in the federal district, but have no representation in Congress. Residents have long fought for the right to have a say in the government that taxes them, but politics is a perpetual roadblock in their quest. DC Shadow Senator Paul Strauss joins RT’s Ameera David to discuss the fight and its implications.

Washington DC is considered to be the symbol of American power and freedom. However as the saying goes – the District has a long history of taxation without representation. DC residents have no members representing them in either the House or the Senate and yet they pay their taxes like everyone else and in many cases much higher taxes. RT’s Liz Wahl looks at how this works and how the people feel about it

Why you should support the Fair Tax

Why YOU should support the FAIRTAX…

Dear Friend,

The reason you received this email is because a friend thought you would like to receive a 15-25% pay raise.

Interested?  Read on.

There is only one-way to give yourself a raise like this.

Passing the FairTax Plan right now!

Not only does the FairTax Plan give you more of your own money, it also eliminates the IRS. Yes, all 106,000 IRS employees.

When this happens, the FairTax gives you control of when and how you pay your taxes by when and how much you spend on new goods and services.

That’s why the Founding Fathers NEVER imposed an income tax. They understood that the power to tax our income was an affront to our Freedom.

You see, the FairTax plan, when presented without bias, can stand on its own two feet:

➢ It ends the income tax;
➢ It ends the estate tax;
➢ It ends the payroll tax;
➢ It ends the capital gains tax;
➢ It ends the self-employment tax;
➢ It ends the incentive to move jobs overseas
➢ It ends the IRS, and

More importantly,

It is fair: no loopholes, no special deals, no exclusions, no class warfare;
It is simple:  no hunting for receipts, no filing returns, no fear of audits;
It is transparent: you know how much you pay in taxes every time you buy new goods and services;
It supports economic growth by creating jobs; and,
It is revenue neutral, bringing in the same amount of money as the current system.

You want to take home your entire paycheck, and control your tax bill by how much you spend?

Join this national grassroots movement of patriots who support the FairTax Plan by clicking here right now.

Thank you for your consideration.

For the FairTax,

AFFT Calls on Congress to Eliminate IRS Targeting by Enacting the Fair Tax
HOUSTON, May 16, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Americans For Fair Taxation® (AFFT), outraged by the Internal Revenue Service’s (IRS) continued political abuse and intimidation of citizens and organizations, is calling on Congress to immediately enact HR 25 / S 122, the FairTax® Act of 2013 and phase out the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). “No person or group is safe from IRS targeting; everyone is a bull’s eye,” said AFFT spokesperson Cynthia T. Canevaro.
She added, “The agency, with over 90,000 employees and an annual budget in excess of $12 billion, has historically been the ultimate tool of extreme political manipulation by politicians of both major parties. That’s exactly what our Founding Fathers feared.”
“These types of abuses of are nothing new,” said Dan Mastromarco, tax attorney and co-author of HR 25 / S 122. He added, “In 1819, Former Chief Justice John Marshall warned in McCulloch v. Maryland that, ‘An unlimited power to tax involves, necessarily, a power to destroy.’ The FairTax Act is the only way in which Congress can once and for all eliminate the harassment, political exploitation and selective enforcement against perceived dissidents. It levels the playing field and redistributes power to the citizens who pay the taxes.” . . . Read Complete Press Release

12,000 Peaceful People Arrested in Italy for Not Paying Taxes and Police Discover Thriving Black Market

Thanks to a lifetime of propaganda, people will argue relentlessly that taxation is not an act of violence, they will deny that it perpetuates a complicated form of slavery, and many times get deeply offended when you point out the fact that it is theft.

Yet, peaceful people are taken against their will and thrown in cages every day for not paying taxes.  If this action was not carried by the state, everyone would recognize it as a violent kidnapping.

This year in Italy alone around 12,000 people had armed government workers trespass on their property, take them against their will and lock them up in a cage. . . . Read Complete Report

2 states legalize pot, but don’t ‘break out the Cheetos’ yet (+) R.I.P: Marijuana Prohibition (w/Video)

Prohibition of alcohol was finally overturned, not by the FEDS making it legal, but by legalizing alcohol state by state, thereby ignoring the 18th Amendment.

First the State of New York legalized it while it was still illegal  under Federal law.  Then other states started to legalize until it reached the point that the FEDs didn’t have enough officers to enforce the law.  Then, and only then, did the FEDS join in by passing The 21st Amendment which repealed the 18th Amendment,the prohibition of alcohol. Amendment 21 repeals Amendment 18. This is the same plan being used for the legalization of marijuana.  Looks like we’re on the right track.  Smoke um if you got um!!!. . . EDITOR

Los Angeles (CNN) — Pro-pot groups cheered passage of referendums legalizing recreational marijuana in Colorado and Washington state as the “light at the end of the tunnel” in their 50-year campaign to make the drug legal nationwide.

“Yesterday’s elections have forever changed the playing field regarding cannabis prohibition laws in America (and probably in large parts of the world too),” Allen St. Pierre, executive director of NORML — the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws — wrote in a celebratory blog Wednesday.

But Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper warned it’s too soon to “break out the Cheetos” since his state must still navigate federal laws before citizens can legally buy and sell cannabis. . . . Read Complete Report

R.I.P: Marijuana Prohibition

by Allen St. Pierre, NORML Executive Director

November 7, 2012

The beginning of the end…has begun.

Yesterday’s elections have forever changed the playing field regarding cannabis prohibition laws in America (and probably in large parts of the world too)

The citizens of Colorado, Washington and Massachusetts delivered game changing victories last night for the nearly fifty year-old cannabis law reform Movement. Massachusetts becomes the eighteenth state to pass legal protections for qualified medical patients who’ve cannabis recommended to them by a physician. Colorado and Washington become the first places in the world, ever, where citizens have cast votes to reject cannabis prohibition, and replace the failed public policy with alternatives like tax-n-regulate models (similar to the control and taxation models widely accepted for alcohol and tobacco product use by adults). . . . Pot Prohibition: Initiative Could Make or Break Obama in Colorado

Denver — Throughout his presidency, Barack Obama hasn’t exactly been a friend to marijuana users. Sure, he has acknowledged smoking pot as a young man, but he has disappointed marijuana advocates by opposing its legalization, regulation and taxation like alcohol.

And the Justice Department’s occasional crackdown under his administration on medical marijuana dispensaries, which 17 states and the District of Columbia allow, has angered others.

So now, with Obama facing a stiff challenge from Republican Mitt Romney in the November 6 election, it’s ironic that his chances of winning the key state of Colorado could hinge on marijuana legalization, supported by a growing number of Americans.

At issue is whether Obama will get a boost from young voters expected to be among the most enthusiastic backers of a Colorado ballot initiative that would legalize possession of up to an ounce of pot for recreational use – and give the state the most liberal marijuana law in the nation.

The initiative is a reflection of Colorado’s unique blend of laid-back liberalism and anti-regulation conservatism that helped make the state the birthplace of the Libertarian Party.

It’s a state where people of different political stripes see marijuana laws as an example of government needlessly sticking its nose where it doesn’t belong.

It’s also a proving ground for advocates who see legalization as a way to ease crowding in prisons, generate much-needed tax revenues, create jobs and weaken Mexican cartels that thrive on Americans’ appetite for illegal drugs. . . . Read Complete Report
